The SAVs will sell like hot cakes, but the M Performance sub-brand will certainly shift plenty of the F10 5 Series versions as well, so let’s grab a closer look at it.

Under the new M Performance banner, the 5er is available in both sedan and estate shape and it gets the same captivating makeover.

All the bits and pieces underneath get whatever upgrades they need to keep up with the new high performance diesel engine BMW offers and the appearance is almost unaltered.

With the looks that’s a massive plus point, with the “bits” there’s a few concerns but only one change stands out.

Instead of the standard electric power steering systems, BMW M Performance chose to go with a hydraulic option that was derived from the system used by the M5.

That’s a pedigree right there. The engine is all new and it’s the same 3.0 liter tri-turbo diesel the X5 and X6 get and it develops the same 381 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque.

The same no lag promises are made and there’s some witchcraft fuel economy figures for the performance levels granted.

In sedan form the BMW M550d xDrive (which is what it’s called by the way) can go from 0 to 62 in just 4.7 seconds and will easily hit the electronic buffers at 155 mph.

Even if doing that, you’ll still be capable of managing 44.1 mpg (imperial). CO2 emissions aren’t exactly the best around but for a big saloon to manage 169 g/km of CO2 and be Euro 6 compliant we’re talking about quite the feat.

The first full frontal of the new BMW M550 xDrive and its larger relatives will be at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

Those of you who are already bored of the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe may want to grab a look at these new renders from the “automotive manipulator” Theophilus Chin.

We already know that it wasn’t BMW’s idea to come up with a four door coupe so we might as well embrace the idea that the Bavarians will end up looking for other inspiration sources on the followup.

Since the CLS estate shooting break has been confirmed, why not see a future with a BMW 6 Series estate Gran Touring?

The renders are actually a lot better than I would have expected so kudos to their creator. The idea of a BMW 6 Series station wagon doesn’t really seem that appealing and the new look makes it even less so.

Even though the Mercedes CLS Shooting Break has a better looking rear end than the 6 Series Gran Touring render, it’s not exactly at the top of the desirability list. How will BMW make it work?

That is, if anybody at BMW even grants a second look to these renders, let alone start compiling a business case for it. Honestly, I don’t see the BMW 6 Series Gran Touring happen.

Perhaps the Germans can make it look better than the renders but it will certainly loose the key selling point of the whole lineup, the coupe looks.

No matter how many doors it has, how much space in the back it can offer and such, as long as it’s doesn’t at least resemble the general lines of a coupe, the BMW 6 Series Gran Touring will be a struggling product.

The latest edition of the BMW 3 Series, the F30, has recently been getting quite a lot of praise, an increased interest in its engines, interior and overall presence but little bad press.

For a bit of a change in scenery let’s focus on a little something the 2012 BMW 3 Series doesn’t have. This is obviously, too much space inside or in the boot.

Despite having grown in size when compared to the previous model, some of us BMW fans that are more practical will be looking forward to the upcoming estate version.

It’s all fine and well but what will happen to the American residents that for a while now have been deprived of the BMW 3 Series estate and instead pushed towards larger members of the Bavarian family?

Well, according to some leaks from within BMW themselves, this time that’s not going to happen, they will actually be sending an F30 3 Series estate stateside.

We’re still to find out when this will happen but my best guess is that Americans will be more willing to forgive the Germans for not offering the BMW 3 Series estate there for so long.

This is likely to happen as the new BMW F30 3 Series will also be sending a new engine over the Atlantic and it will be something else they’ve not really been getting, a diesel.

As to be expected no information on what diesel version that will be but it doesn’t really matter as it means people looking for a bigger sized BMW 3 Series in the U.S. will be catered to, as well as those looking for more efficiency.
