BMW`s i8 fans in the United States are now glad to receive the official figures with the plug-in hybrid, figures which has just been released by the US EPA.

The US EPA results refer to the electric range of 15 miles, the MPGe, of 76 miles while the MPG combined, is 28 miles, with the BMW German based automaker to also claim an MPGe rating of 94, while the electric range was of 22 miles.

BMW i8 plug-in hybrid supercar is powered by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol unit, backed by an electric motor, which uses the BMW`s eDrive technology.

The 1.5-liter unit outputs a total of 231 horsepower, sent to the rear wheels, while the electric motor develops an additional of 131 horsepower, being sent to the front wheels.

The good news doesn’t stop here, as the BMW German based automaker has also built up a one-off 2014 BMW i8 Concours d`Elegance Edition, to be auctioned this weekend at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d`Elegance.

The Autobild German magazine has recently compared the BMW i3 with the Nissan Leaf and the Volkswagen e-Golf, the models being put face to face in an all-in one comparison, concerning prices, the cabin noise as well as the electric range.

First to be reviewed was the Nissan Leaf, that was declared the best-selling electric car in the history, managing to sell 110,000 units starting with 2011.

Secondly, the Volkswagen e-Golf is the company`s first electric vehicle to start production this fall, forecasting records in the near future, while the BMW i3 is the only model to be considered the number one product worldwide, especially in the US.

In terms of prices, the BMW i3 costs 36,310 euros, being 1,300 euros more expensive than the Nissan Leaf, while the VW e-Golf is available under 35,000 euros.

The noise inside the cabin was also tested, the VW e-Golf recording 68 decibels, while the i3 and the Leaf came out with only 78 decibels.

Talking about the design, the e-Golf`s body is rather conventional with its five passenger-seats, while i3 comes with a futuristic design.

Concerning driving range, the same Autobild stated that the i3 electric has the longest range, with 105 miles from its 22 kWh battery pack, while the e-Golf finished second with 102.5 miles from a 24.2 kWh battery pack.

The BMW German based luxury automaker has launched a video with the i8 hybrid, the model being highlighted in London, while people got a chance of admiring it.

People on the streets are expressing their thoughts about the all mighty BMW i8, while the specialists are also showcasing the real performances of the supercar.

To be a reminder, the BMW i8 hybrid is the company`s first plug-in hybrid model to use a turbocharged three-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine, backed by an electric motor which uses the eDrive technology from BMW.

We are talking about the 1.5-liter unit which develops 231 horsepower alone, sending all the power to the rear wheels, while the electric drive, with an additional of 131 horses, sends the torque to the front wheels.

The BMW i8 plug-in hybrid also comes with and additional electric-range up to 35 kilometers at a top speed of 120 km/h.

The BMW i8 will having a starting price of 126,000 euros in Germany, while in the United Kingdom the model can be bought from 99,125 GBP.

In the United States, the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid will be priced from a rough $135,700.

BMW has recently announced it’s plan for electric vehicles and further more they will be bringing forward a special edition of their latest 5 Series sedan.

This 5 Series will be set apart from the rest of the BMW 5 Series range in being electric.

The car is named Echo and is the result of a partnership between BMW and Tongji University. Tongji University is one of the leading universities directly under the State Ministry of Education in China, has a tradition spanning over a hundred years and it is renown for its, School of Architecture and Urban Planning, School of Civil Engineering , Mechanical School, School of Environmental Science and Engineering.

The precise stats on this car are, as to be expected kept secret but we do have a couple of little snippets about it, it will be able to travel 62 miles on an all electric range and it is promoted as being a car made in Chine, by China and for China.

That being said though there are no plans for BMW to put this concept car into production. The Echo 5 Series BMW is a direct result of BMW’s engineering and of the immense investments made by the Chinese government that total up to over a billion dollars. This amount is invested by the Chinese as the logistics of importing crude oil and the pollution issues this will bring up when China has vast resources of coal that could be transformed in cheap electricity.
