Prior Design releases photos and details on their new tuning kit for the BMW X5. We talk about the E70, not exactly the newest model in the range but even so, we are sure that there is still plenty of interest for this car.

At the exterior, the tuner offers new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, front fenders and a rear diffuser.

Most of these parts are made off Dura-Flex fiber reinforced plastic, a material which keeps the total mass untouched.

Prior Design’s wide body kit also comes with a new sculpted hood which improves the model’s exterior appearance.

At the moment, there are no power tweaks for the E70 BMW X5 but if you want some extra power, there are certainly plenty of packages on the market. Pricing for Prior Design’s styling kit starts at €8,990.

Recently BMW issued a recall involving the E70 BMW X5, with 1.540 units being called into the shops for fixes.

The problem discovered by the NHTSA put the fuel filter heater at fault, and while no incidents cause by it were registered, there are certain risks.

While at first the problem seemed to only affect the 1.540 units, now new reports came in, dragging even more diesel BMWs into the spotlight. The affected models include the E87 1 Series (555 units), the E60 5 Series (321 units), the F01 7 Series (17 units), the E83 X3 models (812 units), the E70 X5 (1.395 units) and finally, the E71 X6 (43 units).

These models were discovered to be at fault after BMW Australia decided to look in their own back yard for the issue reported in the US for the E70 BMW X5. Apparently it is the same as with the X5, the fuel heater might remain active even after contact was taken off. The fix is the same, too, with BMW set to replace the component altogether, and again, free of charge.

It seems that even premium manufacturers like BMW are sometimes plagued by faulty merchandise and are forced to issue recalls.

The most recent debacle involves the E70 BMW X5 model, and problems affect some 1.540 units.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that said units have a faulty fuel filter heater installed that sometimes works incorrectly and could pose a threat. More investigations revealed that said 1.540 units were built back between June 13, 2009 and November 9, 2009.

Apparently, the heater would sometimes err and forget to turn off after it’s done the job, even with no contact. A continuously running heater could be problematic, as not only it would drain on the battery, but it also raises the risk of combustion. As always in these kinds of situations, the car maker will be replacing the component on all affected vehicles free of charge. Luckily it’s a relatively low number of E70 X5s.

Aparently the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) doesn’t just investigate vehicles and demand recalls from car makers.

Recently, they also conducted a survey to see which cars are the most or the least stolen in the USA.

It should come to no surprise that BMW’s E70 X5 managed to get a very good score. Out of 1000 units built, the survey showed 0 were stolen. This is quite impressive, and the other two cars that managed to get a perfect score were the Volvo XC70 and the Lexus SC.

On the other hand, the most stolen car in US seems to be the Dodge Charger, which registered 4.8 thefts for each 1000 units. The Mitshubishi Galant, Cadillac STS and Lamborghini Gallardo also make a shameful appearance as some of the most stolen vehicles. As for the E70 BMW X5, the NHTSA thinks the key feature that makes it hard to steal is the ignition immobilizers.

If you own an E70 BMW X5 with 8-cylinder engine which was produced between October 2006 and March 2010 you have to go to the nearest BMW Dealer because your BMW has issues with power brake failure.

Your E70 BMW X5 has a problematic vacuum hose and the brake power steering can fail because of that. You are prone to accident and we highly recommend to go as soon as possible at your nearest dealer as also I said above.

BMW is recalling more than 30,000 BMW X5 and will carry out all the costs and going to solve this unpleasant problem of your car.
