At the 2022 Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show, the Bavarian carmaker unveiled the new BMW Theatre Screen: a 31-inch widescreen display with 8K resolution, designed especially for rear passengers.

The Consumer Electronics Show, or CES, is in full swing in Las Vegas. On the occasion of the largest trade fair dedicated to technology, carmakers crowded to present various electrical concepts, but also technologies that will be found in the future on cars.

BMW has decided to change the way the rear passenger’s multimedia system is viewed and has come to CES with the so-called Theatre Screen.

It is a 31-inch widescreen display with smart TV features and up to 8K resolution, on which the rear seats can watch (via Fire TV) movies or TV series and listen to music and various podcasts. All this thanks to the collaboration between the BMW Group and Amazon.

Content can be rendered 16: 9, 21: 9 and even 32: 9. The display resolution is approximately 8,000 pixels x 2,000 pixels, and the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround audio system will complete this experience.

With the activation of the My Mode Theatre function, the BMW Theatre Screen comes out of the ceiling upholstery (on a sound experience signed by Hans Zimmer), the sun visors for the side windows and rear window are closed, and the ambient backlight is reduced.

ConnectedDrive banner from BMW is the world`s leading system that can make any viable connections between the vehicle, the driver and the world outside.

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the luxury car manufacturer has set a leading position in terms of technology.

The new series-produced vehicles will have the opportunity of using advanced developments and applications, connectivity and digital systems.

When I am referring about technology, I am actually talking about a special connection between the BMW M235i Coupe and the Samsung Galaxy Gear.

The connection involves a rapid share of information via internet, through a wrist watch, that can access thousands of apps and digital services right on the car`s computer.

Along with that, there are also other important gadgets for the car as the camera-based assistance systems that brings safety for the car.

Other technology involved for the M235i Coupe, concerns a new Parking Assistant that guides your car both from a longitudinal and also from a lateral point of view.

All the systems are partly automated and are part under the BMW ActiveAssist banner and will become the BMW`s technology of the ConnectedDrive.

I know there are a lot of projects out there with the aim to create an autonomous vehicle, but how many projects aim to build a “highly automated driving” system?

Well, I know of at least one being in the works at BMW, and they plan to unveil it at the Los Angeles Consumer Electronics Show.

Unfortunately, the German car maker didn’t go so far as to detail what exactly consists a “highly automated driving” system, and how is it different from all the other techs developed by various manufacturers. Hopefully, it won’t be just a difference in name.

The same event will also be host to a couple other gems from BMW. They will be revealing a brand new app for their ConnectedDrive system which basically let you check the status of your car via a smartphone or similar device. Secondly, it seems that the car maker will be announcing yet another cooperation contract with what they call a “leader in the consumer electronics industry.”
