These guys are not messing around. After registering a great year in sales back in 2012 they’re simply looking to improve further in 2013.

After 2012’s 11% increase to a total of 1.85 million cars worldwide, the Bavarians are now targeting an even higher threshold.

This year has the promise of being a new record setter for them, building up on the momentum as well as the new products about to be introduced.

Throughout the group there’s bound to be quite a lot of releases, the F32 4 Series being the headline for me. The i3 eco-mobile is also bound to be coming about later in the year.

I was the one hoping for the new M3 and M4 coming in this year, but greed never really helped people since back in the eighties.

At least we can console ourselves with the fun promised by the new compact coupe in town, the F22 BMW 2 Series and its properly great fun in a petit package.

BMW sales and marketing boss Ian Robertson is also quite excited about the business perspective of the new year as BMW have opened up new plants and plan to ramp up production.

Breaching into new markets, building on a strong portfolio, increasing the marketing efforts is not only how they plan to take sales to a new level but also keep the competition at bay.

Audi and Mercedes are going stronger and stronger so staying one step ahead is probably as big a challenge as setting a new personal best.

Switzerland is a country that has it pretty bad on the way cars are sold, to be owned, taxed and so on. Despite this, the Swiss do like their cars.

I suppose you have to in a country where car passion is borderline on illegal, willingness to change cars is something worth fighting for.

This is where the problems came up. Recently, due to to conversion rates, the Swiss began shopping cars in neighboring countries such as Germany and France.

Since the Euro was much cheaper than usual and due to adjusted pricing policies, the new shoppers could save thousands on the purchase of a new car.

At this point, BMW intervened to cut some of their losses and to keep Swiss customers from buying their cars outside their country of residence.

Swiss regulators on competition quickly caught on to this situation and eventually ended up fining the Bavarian car maker for the unpleasant situation.

We’re not very sure of the sort of fines imposed in such situations but we do know how much BMW was charged for this problem.

It was a 156 million Swiss francs fine, that translates into roughly 163 million USD that the Swiss Competition Commission imposed.

The charge laid out is impeding direct and parallel imports. BMW have responded by saying that they’ll be fighting the decision in a Swiss court.

According to BMW their dealer agreements work under the European Economic Area’s legislation and do not have an impact on actual competition in Switzerland.

As a final precursor till the F30 version of the BMW M3 turns up, the E92 coupe will be getting another special limited edition.

The E92 BMW M3 Coupe Competition Edition isn’t exactly a completely new to us since it’s been unveiled more than three months ago.

It will be available in a limited run of just 450 units with various markets each getting some of these. The Bavarians have just announced that some of them will be sent over to Singapore.

Before all the BMW nuts over there start partying, they should start making a few efforts and placing a call to secure one.

Only 8 units of the E92 BMW M3 Coupe Competition Edition will be hitting the island city down in Asia.

Other than that we’re looking at the usual set of specs and features as the M3 Competition edition of other markets.

That sounds there’s only a Frozen Silver Metallic exterior option for the exterior and the 4.0 liter V8 under the bonnet will develop the usual 420 horsepower.

The impressive powerplant will be teamed to an M DCT double clutch gearbox which will send all of the power to the rear wheels only.

Those would be the BMW M3 GTS’ set of 19 inch wheels that are firmly kept in check by the Bavarian company’s special Electronic Damper Control.

Finally, in order to keep things exciting BMW promises that the M3 Coupe Competition Edition gets higher thresholds for the programming of the M button.

This is to remind us all the original purpose of the limited edition car, the celebration of 40 years of existence of the M division.
