We have new details on the high-performance M version of the new BMW X4. Unfortunately, recent reports are showing that a BMW X4 M is quite unlikely to happen.

The main reason why BMW is not very sure to introduce a sportier variant of the German crossover is another model in range.

We talk about the BMW X6 M, the Bavarians saying that an M version of the BMW X4 could endanger the sales of its bigger brother.

The BMW Product Communications manager, Bernhard Ederer, said that the BMW X4 M is unlikely to be introduced but the final decision is still not taken.

“It is a little bit selfish, as it is not always about what a number of customers would like but what for us is the best business opportunity,” says BMW. We will keep you up to date on how this story develops.

The new crossover SUV from BMW is still quite a while out, due date being somewhere in 2014. I am talking about the BMX X4, of course.

And even if we don’t really know how the X4 will look like once it hits the assembly line, some have already started dreaming up variants for it. All based on the concept.

Theophilus Chin is one such guy, who thinks the world needs more coupe crossovers. And one based on the new BMW X4 would do very nice. So he got his game on and rendered his vision of the BMW X4 Coupe.

Arguing that the X4 is too similar to the X6 in design, he thinks a coupe BMW X4 makes a lot of sense, and the German car maker should really consider this. I have to admit that he does make a valid point, especially when backed by the renderings of his idea.

But even if he manages to get the ball rolling on the BMW X4 Coupe, it will be a long wait until we will see one, so until then let’s just enjoy Theophilus Chin’s work.

Before the official unveiling at the Shanghai Auto Show, BMW slowly leaks information on the X4 concept. Based on the BMW X3 platform, this new model in the range is closer to the styling of an X6.

While no numbers were released so far, BMW did graciously provide more pictures for those of us in need of more information.

As with many other concepts, BMW won’t change the X4 too much once it enters production, leaving the styling pretty much the same as what we see in these pictures.

This is a good thing, because I, personally, like what I see. With an aggressive front end with LED headlights, big air intakes and menacing kidney grills, the BMW X4 is truly an evolution for the X range of vehicles. On the rear end, we can observe a dual exhaust system and an unique bumper.

Performance on the BMW X4 concept is still unreleased, and with just a few days until the Shanghai Auto Show, chances are we won’t find out anything until the unveiling. At least not through the official channels.

Following yesterday‘s leaked details and photos, the Germans at BMW officially introduced the new X4 Concept, a prototype which preview the upcoming production model.

Scheduled to debut in world premiere at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show, the new BMW X4 Concept shows an evolution in terms of design compared to the bigger X6. Styling improvements include new optical blocks, a revised kidney front grille, LED daytime running lights, new hood and larger alloy wheels.

A more aggressive roof line and a special Long Beach Blue finish also improve the model’s appearance while new LED taillights and a dual-pipe exhaust complete the exterior tweaks.

The production version of this prototype will be built in South Carolina and is expected to go on sale in early 2014.

Power will be provided by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit producing 240 horsepower and 352Nm of torque, with a more potent 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo offering 300 horses available as well. If we do know the engine range of the final model, we can’t tell you what powers the prototype version yet.

The Shanghai Auto Show coming this month is the closest event that might possibly exhibit the new X4 from BMW. But information and pictures are already out there.

AutoBild decided to help us out by revealing the appearance of the new Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) from the German car maker.

It has some huge alloy wheels and chrome trims that most likely will be optional once this model hits the market. But apart from these details, we expect the BMW X4 to be similar to the concept.

The BMW X4 is built on the X3 platform, giving it the possibility to fetch quite an affordable price. And although it uses the same engines as the X3 (4 and 6 cylinder diesel or gasoline) it is a bit more chiseled. Performance information is still to be released, but we can take solace in knowing how big it will be.

The lenght is 4.648m with a width of 1.915m and 1.622m of height. The wheelbase is 2.810m. We won’t be able to get our hands on one until next year, but we will find out more about the BMW X4 this month, so keep an eye out for Shanghai.

Only yesterday we were talking about a possible debut of the F15 BMW X5 at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show, and here we have another model in the range which could meet the audience early next year.

To be more specific, we talk about a concept model, the F26 BMW X4 prototype which is designed to foreshadow the upcoming production variant.

According to the current assumptions, the new German SUV will share the same platform with the current F25 X3 which means it will be 4,65 meters long while borrowing several design cues from its bigger brother.

If the engine range will carry over from the current BMW X3, the production variant of the X4 could also include an M version powered by a six-cylinder gasoline power plant.

Even the German car maker will make this move and unveil the BMW X4 concept at the Detroit Motor Show, it’s still early to talk about certain details of the final model. The F26 BMW X4 will most likely enter the range in 2014.
