The Germans from BMW announced their intentions to extend the engine range of the current BMW X3 generation, internally known as the F25. Therefore, the plan to introduce a number of two new turbocharged units which will be available starting this fall. The first unit is going to be the new entry level engine while the second one will be the most powerful unit available for the German compact crossover, but as mentioned above, they will be available only later this year.

“From its inception, the new BMW X3 has occupied the top slot among the competition by virtue of its compelling driving pleasure, convincing versatility and commanding presence anchored in high-calibre design and no-compromise premium quality. Now this successful Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) is about to extend its lead even further on the efficiency front,” says BMW.

The BMW X3 xDrive20i will be powered by a 2.0-liter gasoline unit able to deliver 184 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 270 Nm of torque from 1,250. The new four-cylinder engine features the Valvetronic variable valve control system, direct fuel injection, a variable camshaft control system and a twin-scroll turbocharger.

“Its newly developed 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit blends a hallmark BMW sporty power curve with exceptionally high efficiency,” add the Germans. You will also be able to choose from either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.

On the other hand, the second proposal of the German company is a 3.0-liter diesel engine which will fit the X3 xDrive35d version offering 313 horses and 630 Nm of torque. With such performance figures, it will become the most powerful unit in X3’s range, featuring innovative systems such as the common-rail direct injection system and twin-stage turbocharging.

Standard features of this unit include the Auto Start-Stop function, four-wheel drive system and the eight-speed automatic gearbox. BMW also plans to bring some equipment modifications which means more features offered as standard and a longer list of options. However, these details will be discussed in a further article.

According to the British people from CAR, the Bavarians are currently working on the M version of the current BMW X3 F25, the sporty version of the German SAV following to enter the market somewhere next year. However, these details are not officially confirmed by BMW but the British publication claims that well placed confirmed these assumptions.

According to the first details, BMW is now developing a tri-turbo unit based on the current 3.0-liter engine. This means that the six-cylinder unit will transform into a 3.2-liter engine and will benefit from three turbochargers, two exhaust-gas driven and an additional electric one.

With this setup, the new 3.2-liter tri-turbo unit would be able to offer around 450 horsepower but as mentioned above, BMW declined to comment these rumors and until now, no prototypes of the new X3 M were seen being tested on the road. This is also a concerning detail as if we give credit to the assumptions according to, the M version of X3 will debut next year, we should have been prototypes being tested.

If the 2011 BMW X3 starts at a price of $37,625, the new X3 M should come with a starting price of around $80,000. The current BMW X3 F25 is offered stateside with two engine options. The BMW X3 xDrive28i features a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine able to offer 240 horsepower and 311 Nm of torque.

With these resources, the German SAV sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6,7 seconds. The second option is the xDrive35i version which gets a more powerful unit, a 3.0-liter with twin-scroll turbo technology offering 300 horsepower and 406 Nm of torque, allowing the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h to be achieved in 5,5 seconds.

With this been said, a tri-turbo 3.2-liter engine developing around 450 horsepower will be an attractive alternative to the engine range of the current X3 disclosed above. The same “well placed” sources provided the British people new information on the next-generation X5 M and X6 M. According to them, the 4.4-liter V8 will be revised in order to offer more horses, around 560 ponies to be more exact, while the fuel efficiency is rumored to be improved by about 10%.

Few days ago we had to opportunity to see the BMW 5 Series F10 fitted with the M Sport package being reviewed by the British journalists from Autocar. The German performance sedan managed to impress the British people and got an overall rating of four stars.

This time, Autocar decided to put at test the new BMW X3 F25, the xDrive 20d version more exactly. Starting at a price of about £30K, the new BMW X3 F25 comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine (don’t forget we talk about the xDrive 20d) able to develop 182 horsepower.

The British journalist reviewing the new German model claims that this is certainly one of the most entertaining model in its segment. Thanks to the latest technologies developed by BMW, the new X3 manages to get a combined fuel consumption of just 50,6 mpg or 4,6 liters/100 km while it issues 149 g/km of CO2. As the BMW 535d M Sport F10 recently reviewed by the British, the new X3 F25 gets a four star rating.

BMW decided to introduce two more versions for the new BMW X3 F25, two versions which can be also ordered together with the earlier revealed M Sport package. We talk about a petrol and a diesel engine, more exactly the xDrive28i and xDrive30d versions.

BMW X3 xDrive30d F25 is able to develop 258 horsepower thanks to a 3.0-liter engine under the bonnet. The model manages to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6,2 seconds while the fuel consumption announced by BMW is around 6 l/100 km.

On the other hand, the petrol version of the new X3 F25, xDrive28i, it’s able to develop the same amount of horsepower but slightly less torque, just 310 Nm compared to 560 Nm for the diesel unit. The petrol engine offers a fuel consumption of 9 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 210 g/km. The new versions of the BMW X3 F25 comes with the automatic eight-speed transmission. The great fuel consumption figures of the diesel version are mainly achieved due to BMW’s BluePerformance technology.

The new BMW X3 F25 it’s now eligible with the M Sport package developed by the German engineers. The Bavarian SUV gets special components able to improve the aerodynamics and the aesthetics but also two new engines scheduled to be introduced soon. We talk about a 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol engine able to develop 258 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque and a 3.0-liter diesel able to deliver the same amount of horses but slighty more torque, 560 Nm.

The new BMW X3 was recently revealed at the Paris Auto Show but the Germans already release the M Sport package, a package which will be available starting next year.

The new F25 X3 gets a new set of chromed exhaust pipes, a new air deflector and a redesigned front bumper with large air intakes. New 18 to 20 inch rims are available too while at the interior the M Sport package brings aluminum trim, leather sports seats and a new steering wheel. The suspension of the model was revised too in order to provide better handling and ride comfort.

BMW decided to involve in this regard and managed to prove that the winter tires provide an advantage on winter conditions. They fitted winter and summer tires on two BMW X3 F25 and started few comparision tests. To make things more clearly they added a badge on each models where the type of the tires is written.

The difference is obviously, even at the start the model fitted with summer tires can not handle the situation while the X3 F25 with winter tires gets a whooping start. Many people are disputing on this subject, a part of them considering that the winter tires does not bring any benefits compared to the summer or better said all seasons tires.

This time, if the message comes from the Bavarian manufacturer few of the confused people we’ll get the idea right. Anyway, you can use any type of tires you want as long as the law does not force you to fit your car with winter tires when is needed.

As I told you in the last post, some photos revealing the M Sport Package for the fresh generation BMW X3 appeared on the Internet. As the name of this package says, “Sport”, this package developed by the M division increase the sportsmanship of this model that was released just two days ago.

Carbon Black it’s a new body color paint available just for this special M Sport Package. Also, this package comes with new 19-inch alloy wheels but also with a sport suspension. A nice feature for this package are the gear shift paddles, mounted of course on the steering wheel, a M Sport steering wheel, available with the automatic gearbox.

Pearlpoint leather is available for the sport seats that this M Sport package for the just released BMW X3 F25 offer to the customers. The launching date for the M Sport Package was not revealed yet by the people at BMW.

First of all, I want to apologize myself for this delay. No more articles were posted since July 14, but now I’m here and ready to keep you up to date. Two days ago, BMW officialy introduced the new BMW X3, codenamed F25, as you probably know. The X3 model is at the second generation, coming with xDrive all-wheel drive.

Comparing to the previous generation, BMW X3 F25 is wider, longer, higher and has a longer wheelbase. The new generation is 83 millimeters longer, 29 millimeters wider and the wheelbase increased by 15 millimeters. The new X3 is built on the E90 platform, comes with Start & Stop technology, in order to reduce the fuel consumption, but also the adaptive suspension is available.

Thus, the BMW X3 F25 will be available with diesel and petrol engines. The petrol engine develops 306 horsepower. Drive28i version will come with the 3.0 liter engine capable to develop 272 horses and the xDrive20d and xDrive30d versions developing 184 hp and 245 hp. The M Sport Package for this model was also revealed, more details soon.
