Following BMW Motorsport`s range of winnings in the 2016 season, the racing division from BMW is already thinking up ahead and is preparing for the 2018 season.

The big news is that BMW Motorsport is also warming up the all-new BMW M4 GT4, which will make its official debut in 2018. Below, the racer is seen in the first official images, revealing the model with the typical racing wrapping, which kinda resemble that of a test mule.

Before the new season, the BMW M4 GT4 will undergo a lot of tests, starting with the 24-hour Dubai race, next month. Speaking about the car`s rough testing, Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director, has also stated in a recent interview:

“Our international customers have celebrated many triumphs in the first year with the BMW M6 GT3. We hope this will continue in 2017. The comprehensive test programme with the BMW M4 GT4 will go on in parallel. We will also see the car in action in a couple of races. Our privateer teams will then compete with the newest model from our product range in 2018. I am particularly pleased that the BMW M235i Racing remains so popular. The widespread use of this race car and the positive feedback from our customers show that this model has been a hit since its introduction in 2014.”

As we can depict from the photos below, the all-new BMW M4 GT4 comes with carbon fiber components, some borrowed from the BMW M3 GTS. We are looking here at a carbon fiber bonnet with custom built air outlets for a more efficient air flow, adding front splinters, adjustable tailgate, carbon fiber doors and roof and a few more.

The GT versions from BMW have always delighted us in different racing series worldwide and the German carmaker is seemingly trying to revive the lineup by introducing cheaper and higher-performance models.

I mean, why using a heavily customized M6 GT3 which is extremely expensive when you can use a race version of an existence model, all built-up from carbon fiber and other lightweight materials which improve their performance and save some money.

And when BMW built the M4, it built it with a purpose as well: that of launching it on the track at a certain point. And the real proof that the carmaker is preparing a GT4 is the video below, which is showcasing a heavily modified M4 for some rough testing at the Ring.

Once it will be ready for track use, the BMW M4 GT4 will replace to old-timer M3 GT4, becoming thus a much viable yet cheaper alternative in terms of costs. Not to mention that it will become more powerful and faster, thanks to the carbon fiber structure, with plethora of CFRP composites.

Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director, gave a more deeper inside on the carmaker`s need for a change in the racing segment, back in 2015:

“The GT4 category is currently experiencing a boom. It offers affordable motorsport with cars of technical high-quality and, therefore, attracts a wide target audience. We see enormous potential around the world for privateer BMW teams for whom the BMW M4 GT4 is an option. The BMW M4 GT4 is designed perfectly for simple use by privateer teams.”

Once it will arrive, the future BMW M4 GT4 will use the same 3.0-liter straight six-cylinder bi-turbo engine, but with a much higher output than the current M4`s 431 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. More details will be revealed at a later date.

BMW Motorsport is preparing a successor of the M3 GT4, which is no other than the M4 racer, slotted to debut in January 2018, at the 24 Hours of Dubai event.

The BMW M4 GT4 is already being tested and will be ready in time for its debut in 2018. Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Directo has also stated that “The GT4 category is currently experiencing a boom. If offers affordable motorsport with cars of technical high-quality and, therefore, attracts a wide target audience. We see enormous potential around the world for privateer BMW teams for whom the BMW M4 GT4 is an option.”

BMW Motorsport have chosen the BMW M4 GT4 as the new racer because it comes with the perfect structure, aerodynamics, handlings, all which can be improved and customized to become the perfect sports car.

The racer will have a lot in common with the stock M4, meaning that it will use the drivetrain, mechanicals and the electronics.

There will also be some carbon fiber components that will make it lightweight, for instance it will have the M4 GTS`s carbon bonnet, adding carbon fiber doors, custom motorsport front splitter, rear wing and custom-built racing exhaust system.

The interior will be also adapted for racing, meaning the same sports seats, braking system and pedal box borrowed from the bigger BMW M6 GT3.

Once it will be ready for the 2018 racing season, the BMW M4 GT4 is going to take part in different events in Europe, North America or Asia.
