The largest BMW M Fest in the world is back! From October 15–16, 2022, BMW South Africa will stage its third event honoring the most potent letter in the world.

Come October 2022, BMW customers, admirers, and automobile enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting lineup of entertainment and exhilarating experiences – both on and off the track. This is the year when the BMW Group commemorates 50 Years of BMW M.

The BMW M Fest looks to be a memorable event, allowing attendees to enjoy test drives of BMW’s M and M Performance cars as well as drag races and drifting competitions. BMW M and M Performance cars sell well in South Africa, so fans there may expect to see some extra-special metal at Kyalami.

Away from the action on four wheels, guests may browse around one of the largest BMW showrooms, enjoy live entertainment, or occupy the kids in a larger activity area.

Shell V-Power is the power source for the 2022 BMW M Fest. On Monday, July 11, 2022, howler.co.za will begin selling tickets. Make a note of the greatest 50th birthday celebration you’ve ever seen in your calendars and follow BMW South Africa on social media for further details.

Up until a couple of years ago we were used to seeing BMW models wearing the famous rear-wheel drive layout, but as technology progressed, so did the German based carmaker, which has adopted a different attitude towards drivetrain possibilities, and launched BMW cars with front-wheel drive layout, while also developing the all-wheel layout technology on its most powerful M models.

But why this decisive turn? The fast growing auto technology and performance as well as the heavy competition, has led to strict swifts in the company`s strategy, according to which at least the M5 and the M6 models will receive an xDrive version.

The AWD performance comes with a whole lot of advantages when driving on different road conditions or on bad weather conditions. It allows the driver to better handle and control the car in tight corners, on snowy conditions or other difficult situations.

Even if the company`s philosophy will remain the rear-wheel drive performance, the all-wheel drive technology will give drivers the possibility and the chance of exploring their powerful M vehicles to the max and will allow BMW to keep one feet in front of the its heavy competitors like Audi or Mercedes-Benz.

Dr. Friedrich Nitschke, the future BMW M boss, has big plans with the M division, announcing a lot of new M components, naturally aspirated engines or the upcoming of BMW i8 M.

First off, the former Audi-quattro boss, Friedrich Nitschke intends to reinvent the BMW M models, by launching all-wheel drive layout BMW M5 and M6.

Rumored for long time, the AWD BMW M5 and M6 will confirm the competition set against the Mercedes AMG, especially in the Northern part of America.

Another important goal that Nitschke intends to achieve is the development of naturally-aspirated engines as a viable solution against the turbocharged powertrains.

Thus, Nitschke confirmed that 10-cylinder engines are already in development, but until the new regulations will be approved, the V8 twin-turbo will remain the main option for the BMW M cars.

To make things complete, the BMW M boss is also planning to return to traditionalism, as the front-wheel drive M and the manual transmission will be introduced.

Finally, the planning of the next BMW i8 M sports car is also one of the top priority of Nitschke. We will wait and see if everything goes according as planned.

We have a lot of festivals out there, more or less official, that celebrate the great craftsmanship BMW has displayed over the years.

There is even a very nice gathering that caters specifically to the M Division of the German car maker.

Called the M Festival, it was set on June the 20th this year, and anyone willing to pay the entry fee will get to see all that is new with BMW’s M Division and so much more. In order to get in, you need to fork out €449, which will account for three days of fun and plenty of activities.

Said activities and advantages include an entrance ticket to the 24 hours race at the Nurburgring, access to pretty much all the M Festival areas, around the clock catering (most of which is included) and a whole lot more. You even get a the parking included. All in all, for almost €450, you get a nice vacation as any, provided you are a fan of the BMW M Division.

Ever since BMW announced differentiating their vehicle line-up, a hype has been stirring about the new models.

The car maker announced that the old 3 Series coupe will be going out of production, and the 4 Series will take its place.

With pictures released on the new BMW coupe, people have started wondering what would the M variant be like. And while speculations ran rampant, it was only recently that the guys from Top Gear managed to get some details out of a BMW official.

In an interview, Matt Collins, BMW’s product manager for small and medium cars let it slip that the new BMW M4 will be sporting a turbocharged engine, although he did not mention which one. Further more, he said that we should expect to see a lot of lightweight materials going into the car. And considering that working on the i-series made several breakthroughs in this domain for the German car maker, the promise seems solid.

The successor of the amazing E92 BMW M3 is being developed with respect to the tradition the M3 cultivated in mind, so we can expect BMW to make no compromises… not that they normally do.

The most powerful cars out there use a certain feature to put the horses they muster down on the road. It is called a launch control, and it makes life easier driving race cars and even production vehicles.

Traditionally, the German car maker BMW only uses launch control on the special models that get retrofitted by the M Division.

Not anymore. It seems that plans are in motion to install the module on models over the whole range, so far mentioning the 1 Series, 3 Series and 6 Series. There could be several reasons for this, possibly having to do with how the drivers of the respective models behave in traffic, or the evolution of engines power-wise.

Even if you don’t have the upgrade M Division offers, most Bimmers are quite powerful on their own, and from time to time you might want to see how fast you can accelerate from a standstill. Or maybe you fancy taking place in a track day from time to time. Not matter exactly the reason behind the decision, I, personally, can see justification.

Bad news to BMW fans who were not pleased with reaching 100 kmh within 4 seconds! One of most respected voices behind the German car maker says that they are not going any further.

We are talking about Maximillian Ahme, BMW M senior engineer, who is attending this week’s Malaysian Sepang F1 circuit.

To make BMW passionate even more revolted, Ahme claims that 4 seconds is as good as it gets, yet not because they cannot get anything better!

According to the same voice, the current BMW’s engine could easily support an extra 20 to 60 KW, which is the equivalent of 50 HP to 100 HP, all these without a problem!

So if you are asking where is the problem, the answer resides in the tires! If you know how a car reaches 100 kmh, than you will understand that adding extra power to the engine will not guarantee a faster reach of this threshold.

Within those four seconds, Ahme says that the tires are on the edge. And it takes using them extra hard until you get close to 80 kmh and only after that they will be taking full advantage of the torque and power of your engine.

So a BMW M with a more powerful engine will not help the tires, nor the rear wheel traction, to perform better. This is why the skyrocketed performances have reached the sky!

BMW has a long history of collaboration with Dorna Motorsport, the organizer of MotoGP, that has stood strong for 15 years.

To celebrate that and also to show its dedication to the partnership and its gratitude towards being the official car of MotoGP, BMW’s M Division provided this year’s event with a state of the art motorhome.

The motorhome was built for the use of the organizational members, teams, riders and even journalists and is 15 meter long and 4 meters high. A high grade hydraulic system makes for an easy transition from the trailer state to the motorhome use.

BMW M Division spared no expenses when building the motorhome, and “all furnishings and technology, be it the hydraulics on the exterior or IT on the inside, are state of the art. We are also proud to be able to use what is currently the only 3D car configurator. The design, in the style of the Safety Cars, is also in line with our brand presence”

AC Schnitzer released a press release for some new stuff they’re working off and we’re a little disappointed in the whole thing.

There’s no word of a car from BMW being involved, there’s not even any of their high end motorbikes showing up in the photos or announcement.

Believe it or not, this time they tuned a BMW bike. We wouldn’t have settled for the idea of a scooter but this is a little out of our comfort zone.

Don’t worry though, the BMW M Carbon Bike together with the AC Schnitzer package still has quite a bit of engineering to consider.

Who are we kidding here, the BMW M Carbon Bike is actually impressive for a bike. Just as impressive as the price tag which comes in at $3.579 in the U.S.

Healthy living is one thing but ending up spending thousands of dollars for a bike is a little over the top in cases like this.

The details of the equation sound pretty simple. The original BMW M Carbon Bike weighs in at 12.7 per cent more than this.

In order to achieve the difference AC Schnitzer used carbon fiber for all the bits that weren’t already made of it.

While the percentage of weight savings sounds impressive the actual loss is just 2.2 pounds as the German tuned bike (still can’t wrap it round my head) comes in at 15.2 lbs.

Just to make sure people notice the difference AC Schnitzer cover it up with a special livery that is just covered in the company’s badges.

Though a little surprising, with this new announcement from the Bavarians we’ve finally untangled some mysteries about what BMW have been up to lately.

In preparation for this spring’s Geneva Motor Show, BMW have told us that they will not be unveiling a new M product, but rather an entirely new M product lineup.

Destined to be called the BMW M Performance lineup, the new sub-brand will be a middle ground between the M Division and the normal versions of the company’s products.

It sounds a little odd at first but once you think about it, it’s pretty simple. Just like Audi who boast the S lineup and the RS lineup, BMW will have the M Performance lineup and the M Division one.

So far we don’t really know the specifics of the BMW M Performance sub-brand but it’s almost certain that under its tutelage we will see at least two models that have been grasping attention lately.

I’m talking about the teased and reteased BMW X6 M5.0d and its engine sibling, the BMW 5 Series M550dx.

In case you haven’t heard of the latter, we’re talking about something that’s been referred to as the diesel M5. Both these models are exciting but since they are powered by diesel engines they are somewhat too compromised for wearing a genuine M division badge.

To some, this announcement is a major let down, BMW M has corrupted itself but to most, it is a welcome site. Most of BMW’s European fans are waiting for that very powerful diesel engine like there’s no tomorrow.
