If you have been following the news in the past month, you surely have heard about the tensions in Ukraine and Russia’s involvement.

Ok, we won’t go into details and won’t comment on that, as the conflict doesn’t make the subject of this site.

What we are going to talk about, though, is the awesome BMW gathering that was organized in Russia despite all the talk about war. The event we talk about is the M Festival in Moscow, and just by the sound of its name, you can easily guess what kind of vehicles were present.

Sightings included the BMW M135i, the M235i, as well as the more powerful BMW M3, M4, M5 and M6. As you can imagine, the main attractions were the new BMW M3 and M4, which brought up the rear of the display, and did it in a spectacular way. We have a lot of festivals out there, more or less official, that celebrate the great craftsmanship BMW has displayed over the years.

There is even a very nice gathering that caters specifically to the M Division of the German car maker.

Called the M Festival, it was set on June the 20th this year, and anyone willing to pay the entry fee will get to see all that is new with BMW’s M Division and so much more. In order to get in, you need to fork out €449, which will account for three days of fun and plenty of activities.

Said activities and advantages include an entrance ticket to the 24 hours race at the Nurburgring, access to pretty much all the M Festival areas, around the clock catering (most of which is included) and a whole lot more. You even get a the parking included. All in all, for almost €450, you get a nice vacation as any, provided you are a fan of the BMW M Division.

Great news comes from BMW’s M Division, as Dr. Friedrich Nitschke, the department’s head announced some changes for the next generation BMW M5 and M6.

It seems that we should expect them to be sporting all wheel drive systems, although they are still a ways out.

The next generation of BMW 5 and 6 Series is expected sometime in 2016 or 2017, with their respective M variants a bit later than that, but the countdown timer has officially started. This bit of news is sure to put to rest the rumors that have been going around for a while now, with their confirmation making a lot of people happy.

It seems that in recent years, the German car maker has been making many changes, and if we are to judge from what we have seen so far, they are on the right path. Still, Nitschke promised that the M3 and M4 will still stay true to their origins of rear wheel drive machines.

With the occasion of the Frankfurt Motor Show, we found out a lot of information concerning BMW and its future plans.

While a bit disappointing to some, the German car maker announced that there will never be a M variant of any model in the i Series.

More information details the separation of the sub-brands even further. From what it seems, no M engineers were involved while BMW developed the i8 model, with the results being unaffected by outside influence. This was crucial to make sure that the vehicle was as original as possible.

With the i8 shaping up to be one of the most interesting hybrids on the market, the path BMW has chosen to the eco branch seems to be the right one, with no changes foreseen in the immediate future. Cypselus von Frakenberg, BMW’s head of technology communications also commented on this separation of labor, saying “I don’t think that it would make sense to mix these two sub-brands in one car. We have the Ms, we have the is, and we have the BMW, the core brand”.

The most powerful cars out there use a certain feature to put the horses they muster down on the road. It is called a launch control, and it makes life easier driving race cars and even production vehicles.

Traditionally, the German car maker BMW only uses launch control on the special models that get retrofitted by the M Division.

Not anymore. It seems that plans are in motion to install the module on models over the whole range, so far mentioning the 1 Series, 3 Series and 6 Series. There could be several reasons for this, possibly having to do with how the drivers of the respective models behave in traffic, or the evolution of engines power-wise.

Even if you don’t have the upgrade M Division offers, most Bimmers are quite powerful on their own, and from time to time you might want to see how fast you can accelerate from a standstill. Or maybe you fancy taking place in a track day from time to time. Not matter exactly the reason behind the decision, I, personally, can see justification.

BMW has a long history of collaboration with Dorna Motorsport, the organizer of MotoGP, that has stood strong for 15 years.

To celebrate that and also to show its dedication to the partnership and its gratitude towards being the official car of MotoGP, BMW’s M Division provided this year’s event with a state of the art motorhome.

The motorhome was built for the use of the organizational members, teams, riders and even journalists and is 15 meter long and 4 meters high. A high grade hydraulic system makes for an easy transition from the trailer state to the motorhome use.

BMW M Division spared no expenses when building the motorhome, and “all furnishings and technology, be it the hydraulics on the exterior or IT on the inside, are state of the art. We are also proud to be able to use what is currently the only 3D car configurator. The design, in the style of the Safety Cars, is also in line with our brand presence”

To sate that kind of thirst, BMW launched the M PowerSource webpage. Just as you might imagine, this new webpage contains everything there is to know about the German car maker’s M Division and their creations.

If you wanted to know exactly what goes into an M BMW, you can find out right there. It includes details on every M model ever built, like how the cars where built or what engines where used, and it skips not even a shred of information.

They talk about every piece of technology that goes into a vehicle, both old and new; stuff like adaptive suspensions or advanced dynamic stability control. The website can be explored at your leisure by dragging across the screen, with ever new information popping up and catching your eye.

BMW officially announces that Kay Segler, the current director of the BMW M division will leave the Germans in order to take the lead of the British brand MINI. As long as MINI is a sub-brand of the BMW Group, nothing wrong happened there and considering that Segler is not at the first contact with the British brand, this decision seems to be the best.

Since 1988 when Kay Segler joined the BMW Group, four years, between 2004 and 2008 were spent at the lead of MINI. Segler’s place at the lead of the M division will be taken by Friedrich Nitschke, the man who currently takes care about the British brand.

In conclusion, the Germans will switch places, this event being set to happend starting next month, more exactly on May 1.

Nitschke has also some experience behind his name considering that for some years he was the head of MINI’s development division. According to BMW, Friedrich Nitschke is also a very experimented director, joining the German manufacturer in 1978.

Germans at BMW announced through a press release called More dynamic handling, more diversity, more individuality: The BMW M GmbH product range as from the autumn of 2010 that they will upgrade the M Division packages available for their models starting September 2010. Newly developed accessory products will be available starting this autumn.

From the list of the models that will benefit from the new accessory products we can remind the BMW’s X3, X5 M, X6 M, M3, 5 Series Saloon and Touring and 7 Series models, as the German manufacturer announced. An improved BMW ConnectedDrive system will be available for the M versions of BMW X5 and X6.

The BMW 5 Series Saloon/Touring will benefit from M sports suspension, 18 or 19-inch M alloy wheels and M aerodynamics package. Rear spoiler will be available for the improved M package, while in the interior the customers will benefit from leather steering wheel and aluminium pedals.
