A BMW i9 supercar was long discussed and debated and now it seems that the German based premium carmaker is apparently preparing the model for 2016.

This comes after the German media has launched some rumors, stating that the BMW i9 will be launched on the market in a couple of years, being the little brother of the i8 plug-in hybrid.

The model is aimed to compete against other hypecars like the McLaren P1, the Ferrari LaFerrari or the Porsche 918 Spyder.

In terms of visuals, the BMW i9 is rumored to sport a much more aggressive body style, larger unit under the hood, backed by a more powerful electric motor.

We might be talking here about a 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit under the hood, backed by an electric ranger, sporting more power than the i8`s 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged unit.

More details with the upcoming BMW i9 will be released perhaps at the the German carmaker will make an official announcement about its launch.

The famous BMW i8 might be soon receiving a little sibling, as the German based automaker is planning to introduce a successor, in the body style of the long-rumored i9 model, which would be introduced somewhere in 2016.

With the i9 along, the BMW would actually complete the whole “i” brand with three models, the i3, the i8 and the i9 model.

The news with an upcoming BMW i9 were published by Autocar, which had its inside sources revealing the company`s future plans for a more aggressive body style model, which would also sport a much more powerful electric motor.

To be a reminder, the BMW i8 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol unit, backed by an electric motor.

On the other side, the BMW i9 version would sport a 3.0-liter modular six-cylinder engine, also to equip the future 7-Series models.

The BMW i9 might be faster enough to sprint from 0 to 100 km/k in less than 4.4 seconds, which is the record output by the i8.

So far, this is what we know about the future i9, but stay tuned, as more info are foreseen in the near future.
