The Automotive News have just launched the full list of suppliers for the newly unveiled BMW i8 hybrid supercar.

This is no surprise that the list with the suppliers reveal the technology that the BMW i8 hybrid car is using, making it a state of the art supercar.

We are talking thus about companies like Osram, which provides the i8 with the headlamps for the next gen of the supercar that would sport laser high beams.

Brembo is another famous supplier that would equip the i8 with its famous high-performance brakes, while the Johnson Controls manufactures the Cooling Fan Module.

Another important supplier is Delphi, the company which makes the portable electric vehicle charger for the almighty BMW i8 hybrid supercar.

To be a reminder, the BMW i8 hybrid is manufactured in Germany, at the BMW`s plant in Leipzig, which has now been modernized in order to cope with the high demands for the i3 and the i8.

According to HIS Automotive, the BMW is planning to manufacture more than 7,000 units in 2015, with the model coming equipped with the long-expected laser high-beams.

The BMW i8 is certainly not a new name but it seems that the Germans needed about three years to take the plug-in hybrid sports car from the drawing board to customers. We’ve talked for the first time about the new BMW i models back in 2011. Last year, the carmaker officially unveiled the new BMW i8 but the first models were delivered this week.

The company organised a special ceremony in Germany, first BMW i8 units being handed to the clients.

BMW also focuses on the laser headlights and say that they are “the first manufacturer worldwide to offer totally new laser-powered headlights in a production vehicle”.

As a reminder, the new BMW i8 sports a 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo engine and an electric motor for a total output of 362 horsepower. The hybrid powertrain provides a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4,4 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/h. These are pretty standard supercar figures but the fuel economy number are impressive.

The BMW i8 averages 2,1 liters/100 km or 134,5 mpg UK. The lithium-ion battery pack provides a zero-emission range of 37 kilometers.

The BMW manufacturer will start the sales for the i8 hybrid starting with June, with the demands for the vehicle already to exceed the initial plans.

The 2015 BMW i8 hybrid is competing against the Musk and the Tesla Motors and it is set to exceed the initial supply for the period to come.

The BMW announced even from last November that the i8 will be sold ahead its launch, and also indicated that they would have to back up the supply for the summer of 2014.

When it comes to competing against the i8 hybrid, only Tesla can cover the real race, since the high-performance plug-in vehicle is built from the scratch and has its battery under the floor, dropping thus its initial heavy platform. That along with a fiber carbon body, would make the i8 produce a lot of power.

Perhaps this is the main reason that the i8 hybrid will have huge sales for the next six months, as it enhances a high-performance technology for a plug-in hybrid concept.

More to it, the 2015 BMW i8 hybrid has a combined 357 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque, with the 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged gas engine at the rear wheels, backed by an electric motor.

Aerodynamics has been and still is an important aspect of engineering, and it had been properly studied since the race to get man airborne began.

In modern days, not just planes, but cars, too have given great importance to aerodynamics, which can affect a vehicle’s performance.

And while big, bulky machines that don’t bother with speed only try to incorporate it in their models in the slightest, high performance cars have to think it over carefully. To this end, they spend days and days in wind tunnels, perfecting every part of the vehicle to get the best aerodynamic results.

So did BMW’s i8 model, with great emphasis on reducing air drag. We have to remember that while reducing drag helps performance, the i8 is a hybrid, and fuel economy also plays a part. Carefully planning the design of the vehicle in cooperation with the artist, the BMW engineers managed to get an amazing drag coefficient of just 0.26. The world record is 0.20, and that says it all.

Part of the process was also released as a video, which you can see below, and for more details, in just a few hours Frankfurt Motor Show will open its gates and info will start pouring. And they still haven’t ditched any camo.

BMW is feeling in a sharing mood these days, with an abundance of information on the i8 model coming out.

Recently we got the first official pictures of the new German hybrid, and also some numbers on the hybrid solution under the hood.

While numbers alone are impressive indeed, with 362 Hp and and 570 Nm of torque, what really makes it special is the engine that develops it. The new B38 unit is a 3 cylinder engine that displaces 1.5 liters. The displacement is important, as the gasoline engine alone develops 231 Hp, making for 154 Hp per liter.

This is the biggest power output per liter from any BMW engine so far. Since this is a four wheel drive hybrid, BMW decided that the best way to distribute the power is as such: the gasoline engine will take care of the rear axle, while the electric motor will be powering the front one.

In a similar fashion to the BMW i3, the i8 will also benefit from full carbon fiber passenger cell. Other innovations will also be included in the design, one worth mentioning being the gorilla glass, a feature used for the first time on a production vehicle.

Now that the popular BMW i3 has been officially released, the German car maker announces to introduce its next i series model, which is a BMW i8 hybrid sport car.

The unveiling of the new BMW i8 should be performed through a hometown event, at Frankfurt, where together with this unit will be exposed the electric i3 and the 4 Series Coupe, in a world premiere.

BMW has prepped a combo of an electric motor with all-wheels-drive carrying up to 170 HP and a petrol engine, turbocharged, at 1.5 liters, with 3 cylinders and carrying 223 extra HP.

The motoring of the new BMW i8 makes it possible to alternate front with rear wheel drive, up to an AWD, when necessary. Thanks to the carbon fiber used intensively, the vehicle weights no more than 1450 kg and it can go from 0 to 100 km/h within only 4 seconds.

If you take a closer look to everything we know about BMW i8 concept so far, it becomes obvious that the unit relies on the Concept Vision Efficient Dynamics, a car concept presented by Bavarian Motors back in 2009 at the same Frankfurt Motor Show.

Yesterday we had the opportunity to see the new BMW i3 for the first time while the Bavarians were testing the electric model and also filming for something that most probably will be a video teaser coming up soon.

The spy photos of the new i3 from yesterday are without doubt more important than the current spy shots as we largely know how the new i8 looks from the Vision EfficientDynamics concept. Even so, we couldn’t ignore the second eco-friendly member of the new i family.

From the first details, the new hybrid will pack a 1.5-liter diesel unit developing 164 horsepower together with an electric engine offering about 33 horses. However, the situation regarding the engines that will be found under the bonnet is not very clear. According to Klaus Draeger, the 164-horsepower diesel is very likely to be replaced with a four-cylinder petrol engine.

So, we can’t tell you for now the engine options that will be available for the new BMW i8 but we assure you that you will be the first to know when official details in this regard will be available.

According to the first details, BMW is looking forward to fit the new BMW i8 which is scheduled to debut somewhere in 2013 with a hybrid powertrain which consists of an electric engine, of course, but also with a petrol unit, not the diesel turbo propeller as we expected.

This decision is little confusing as we all know that a diesel engine is more proper for a hybrid powertrain considering the fuel efficiency provided by it comparing to a petrol propeller.

These rumors are based on the recent statements of BMW’s development department chief, Klaus Draeger, who comes with the argument that the new BMW i8 wants to be a global model, thus, a petrol engine will fit best even for Europe it is not the best choice.

We can’t tell you for sure if this is the final decision because we relate just to the recent statements of the BMW official. If they’ll choose anyway the diesel engine we can tell you few estimative figures for the 2013 BMW i8. Thus, the diesel-electric powertrain would be able to develop 323 horsepower, 161 from the 1.5-liter turbo diesel and 162 ponies from the electric unit.
