BMW officially announced the X1 sDrive20d EfficientDynamics Edition set to debut this fall. The new version of the current-generation BMW X1 (E84) will be available with the EfficientDynamics package able to significantly improve the fuel-economy. Besides the diesel engine which fits the new eco-friendly version of the current BMW X1, the Germans prepared a new TwinPower petrol unit for the compact model. For the beginning, the new BMW X1 sDrive20d EfficientDynamics Edition gets improved figures thanks to a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo unit.

The new four-cylinder diesel engine is able to produce 163 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. If the horsepower amount is not impressive, you may want to know that the fuel-optimized German model is able to return a fuel consumption of only 4,5 liters/100 km and CO2 emissions of 119 g/km.

Of course, in order to achieve these great results, BMW fitted the new X1 sDrive20d EfficientDynamics Edition with the Start/Stop system, brake energy regeneration and aerodynamic-optimized alloy wheels fitted with low-rolling resistance tires. Moreover, BMW claims that the engine got extra modifications such as a centrifugal force pendulum in the dual-mass flywheel and a revised gear-shift point indicator fitting the new engine.

“The consistent deployment of highly efficient engines and BMW EfficientDynamics technology fitted as standard helps BMW X models also achieve brand-typical driving pleasure combined with exemplary fuel economy and low emission levels. The BMW X1’s outstanding efficiency is a fundamental part of its premium character, which is unique within the competitive environment and also underscored by high-class workmanship, elaborated functionality, a variable interior and numerous equipment features,” claims BMW.

If this was not enough, the Bavarians decided to announce that the BMW X1 will get a new 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo unit. The new four-cylinder petrol engine is able to develop 184 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque while the returned fuel consumption oscillates between 7,1 and 7,7 liters/100 km. The CO2 emissions of the new petrol engine will be around 180 g/km while the pricing is unavailable yet.

“The technology package featured on the 2-litre four-cylinder power unit for the BMW X1 sDrive20i with rear-wheel drive and the BMW X1 xDrive20i with intelligent four-wheel drive comprises a supercharging system according to the Twin Scroll principle, the direct injection system High Precision Injection and variable valve control VALVETRONIC,” adds the German company.

BMW presented the new BMW ActiveHybrid X6 and also BMW ActiveHybrid 7 at the L.A Auto Show. Also, BMW announced plans about these cars for the North American market. One of the things that they said there is that BMW ActiveHybrid X6 price will start from $89,725 and it will have under the hood a twin turbo charged V8 engine that will be able to develop up to 400 horsepower.

BMW ActiveHybrid 7 has a 4.4 liter twin turbo V8 engine and a synchronous electric motor sitting between the engine and the torque converter developing a total of 455 horsepower and a torque of 516 lb-ft.

BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept’s engine can develop up to 356 horsepower and a torque of 590 lb-ft. You may notice now that BMW put an accent on these types of cars: hybrids; which is a very good thing because probably after 20 years, on streets will be only full electric cars.
