The auto industry has reached unlimited developments for the last 10 years in such a rapid way, that things that were not even thinkable back then are now used on a regular basis. The entire auto world has changed for good, leading the way to new technologies, hybrid powertrains and a lot of viable and high-tech solutions for our car, be it a petrol or a diesel burner.

The latest technological innovation involves the fitting of different BMW diesel models with speakers for their M Performance exhaust systems. The reason might seem a simple one: you want a more lively engine sound and rev that only a petrol would have.

The speakers are only available for some of BMW diesel models, for lineups such as the 2 Series Coupe and Convertible (18d, 20d, 25d), the 3-Series Sedan and Touring (18d, 20d, 25d, 28d, 30d, 35d) as well as the 4-Series Coupe, Gran Coupe and Convertible (18d, 20d, 25d, 30d, 35d).

All models that come with a single tailpipe will now be fitted with two tailpipes, while the twin tailpipes models will sport new ones with larger sizes.

But how does the speakers really work? Representatives from BMW explain that the speakers will be installed in the M Performance exhaust system which will mimic a petrol car sound. For instance, if you drive in the ECO Pro or Comfort modes, the sound would be like that used in the Sport or Sport + modes, meaning a more aggressive noise. All aforementioned models will be fitted with the speakers starting this September and the entire package will also include the Active Sound design.
