Following the introduction of the mid-level X2 sDrive20i in Australia earlier this month, BMW customers have also received some pretty good news concerning the introduction of the entry-level sDrive18i and the top of the line xDrive20d in the country.

With the whole lineup in one place, we should also reveal the official prices – sDrive18i ($49,900), sDrive20i ($55,900) and xDrive20d ($59,900).

Famous Marc Werner, CEO of BMW Australia, has also welcomed both variants in the Land Down Under:

“We have already seen strong interest in the X2, both via initial media reviews as well as in the dealerships and on our website. Now we have taken the opportunity to fill out the range, offering a strong entry offering in the sDrive18i, as well as the xDrive20d, a turbo-diesel, all-wheel drive range topper.”

Performance wise, the entry-level sDrive18i features a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine with 103 kW and 220 Nm ot torque. This allows a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds, thanks to an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

On the other hand, the xDrive20d is equipped with a higher 2.0-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder pot with 140 kW and 400 Nm of torque. The same sprint is done in 7.7 seconds. For this variant, the fuel consumption figure is given and stands at 5.1L/100 km/h on a combined cycle.

BMW is not the car maker that pioneered laser headlights, but they managed to become the first manufacturer to fit them on production vehicles.

In fact, they were neck in neck with Audi for a while, but manage to deliver the vehicles first.

This is a step forwards for the automotive industry, albeit not a very big one, as this is not such a leap forward. Still, there are a couple of markets out there that are not ready to receive such vehicles. Surprisingly enough, these are two of the larger ones, namely the US and Australian markets.

While Australia is now in the process of homologating the laser headlights, no word has been received from the US market. It is not uncommon for new products to encounter difficulties when faced with the somewhat old laws and regulations. Let’s hope US will also sort this out and not force BMW to change the headlight on the i8.

Those of you living in Australia will be glad to know that BMW Australia has finally announced the prices of the new BMW X3. Don’t sweat it because the new X3 is going to feature the same price tag as the current model so that’s some very good piece of news especially when taking into account the fact that the new BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle has many important differences to what is on the roads today.

That being said, March 2011 will bring Australia two engine flavors for the second generation BMW X3 SAV. First is the BMW X3 xDrive20d which is the entry-level version which costs $62,200. A good thing is that a six-cylinder petrol engine BMW X3 xDrive28i will also be introduced, with a $71,900 price tag.

But that’s not all. After the launch of the new BMW X3 xDrive30d, Australia will also get it although with a bit of delay, as there is a three month lag. Anyway, the xDrive30d will have a $74,900 price tag.

Compared to the current production models, the models mentioned above bring over $10,000 worth of technology so if you plan of upgrading your version, choosing one of them will be a very good choice.

If you happen to both live in Australia and also to be a fan of the BMW M3 Coupe, or even considering buying one in the near future, you might want to take a look at this piece of news. BMW Australia has launched an exclusive limited edition of the M3 (Coupe and Sedan) named the Pure Edition.

Aimed at BMW fans that are also into sports, searching for a more sporty driving experience, the Pure Edition features 19-inch alloy wheels with a Black Gloss finish, Dark Chrome BMW exhaust tips, Dark Chrome side grills and kidney grille, Black Gloss air intake on the bonnet. As for colors, both Alpine White and Black are available, but also metallic variants such as the Space Grey, Le Mans Blue, Melbourne Red, Mineral White or Silverstone, to name a few.

Performance-wise, the BMW M3 Pure Edition sports a 414 hp V8 engine that takes the Coupe from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds (4.9 seconds for the Sedan), with a 12.4 litres per 100 km fuel consumption.

People in Australia will be getting a treat as BMW will be launching the Z4 sDrive35is which is the car manufacturer’s high performance roadster. Considered to be a follow-up to the BMW Z4 which was the leader of the class, the Z4 sDrive35 will offer new thrills to roadster fans.

Featuring a 6-cylinder twin turbo engine which sports 335 hp and 450 Nm of torque (500 Nm with the use of the overboost) together with a a seven speed sport auto transmission, the BMW Z4 sDrive35is goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, just like the M3 Coupe.
