BMW is revitalizing part of its model lineup by introducing new updates and engines starting this July. The changes involve the 1-Series model as well as some variants from the 5- and the 7-Series, along with the newly-launched i8 Roadster. Also, SUVs from the X range will receive new engine updates.

Starting with the BMW 1-Series, the carmaker has set up a special car titled the “Metropolitan Edition”, which adds up new features “specifically designed to enhance comfort and driving pleasure in urban traffic.”

These new highlights refer to “instrument cluster with extended features”, GPS navigation, rear-view camera, Comfort Access pack, Park Distance and Speed Limited Info.

Next is the 5-Series in both Sedan and Touring disguises, set to arrive with the fabulous Frozen Dark Silver Metallic paintjob, while the top of the line M5 is now dressed with the new Frozen Marina Bay Blue Metallic. On the other hand, the 7-Series has been optimized with a wide choice of colours, along with Merion leather with special trims and high-end roof liner inside.

Moving up to the new i8 Roadster, the hot model is now available with new aerodynamic styling package, with main highlights comprising updated front splitter and rear spoiler. As for the I Performance models – ranging from the 225xe iPerformance to the i8 – these come equipped with the latest technologies onboard.

The new engine updates comprising both petrol and plug-in hybrid forms have been equipped with a particulate filter to comply the new Euro 6d-TEMP regulations.

The power of the engines have also been enhanced. For instance, the BMW X3 M40d is now producing no less than 320 horsepower and 680 Nm of torque, all squeezed from a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, enabling a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. Also, in August, BMW will also introduce the X4 xDrive30d with a 3.0-liter diesel with 261 horsepower and 620 Nm of torque; paired to a high-performance eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive configuration, the model can jump to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.

The transmissions have also been modified. For instance, there is the new eight-speed automatic, available from August on models from the 1-Series (12oi, M140i) or the 3-, 4- and the 5-Series (520d Sedan, 520d Touring).

Even if the all-new 2017 G30 BMW 5-Series was unveiled a couple of months ago, not all versions within the lineup have had the chance of revealing their exquisite design language and performance under the hood. This article highlights the 540i with M Performance Parts.

In fact, it is the video below that is showcasing the gorgeous 2017 G30 BMW 540i with M Performance Parts, the model looking and sounding like a genuine M model.

The car`s main attributes are the carbon fiber components at the exterior which kinda separates it from the rest of the lineup.

We are dealing here with a carbon fiber front splitter and air curtains with blacked-out inserts, adding carbon fiber side skirts with the M badging, which increase the car`s sporty attitude and personality.

The rear end is also standing out from the crowd with the new carbon fiber diffuser, along with carbon fiber trunk lip, also signed by BMW`s M Performance division. The entire M Performance kit is complemented with the new M Performance alloy wheels and the M Performance Brakes with red calipers.

In the engine department, the all-new 2017 G30 BMW 5 Series 540i comes with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder inline engine, with a good 335 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, which is enough to deliver a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds, if fitted with the eight-speed automatic transmission.

Following a couple of spy photos with the 5-Series Touring undergoing tests and wearing camouflage around the rear end, renderings with the aforementioned model have already begun to pop-up online.

We are looking here at a couple of renderings signed by no other than theophiluschin, which is showcasing its own interpretation of the future G31 Touring. They are actually quite realistic as they follow the same styling lines as the test mule being spied under tests.

As we can depict from the renderings, the Touring shares the same design as its Sedan sibling, except for the rear, which is shaped with a wagon style, providing thus additional space for luggage and other equipment.

And even if the real photos revealed the rear end of the model with camouflage, it is easy to foresee that the future Touring will be coming with new taillights, keeping however the same Hofmeister Kink on the new D-pillar.

The G31 BMW Touring is expected to feature rather the same powertrains as the 5-Series Sedan, including the 530e`s new plug-in hybrid, meaning the 2.0-liter engine paired to an electric motor and delivering a total of 250 horsepower.

The much more potent 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine will be taken from the top of the line M550i xDrive, with an impressive 455 horsepower and a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h delivered in just 4.0 seconds. The engine lineup will receive an all-wheel drive layout and a standard eight-speed automatic.

Future details with the upcoming G31 BMW 5-Series Touring will be revealed towards the end of the year, the model being expected for an official debut at the 2017 NAIAS, in Detroit. If not, we should definitely see it at the most awaited auto show of the year, in Geneva, next March.

The BMW is yet again the leader in the US on the luxury segment, managing to bit up Mercedes-Benz, as it had record sales in June.

The BMW luxury automaker is strengthening its position as the leader on the luxury market, having a 12 percent increase in the US, increase which was possible due to the huge selling of the 5-Series sedan, with around 7,940 units to be delivered.

Its main competitor, the Mercedes-Benz luxury automaker managed to sell 26,505 units in June, with only an 8 percent increase, a positioned insured by the E-Class sedan, with 6,500 units.

With these numbers ahead, the BMW carmaker is maintaining its leading position for the first half of the year, managing to sell 157,382 units in the US alone, while the Mercedes-Benz automaker sold 151,624 vehicles.

As for the other carmakers taking their share on the luxury segment, we are talking about Lexus, the Toyota`s subsidiary, which scored a 10 percent increase in June, with a total of 23,518 to be sold.

Audi carmaker also managed to increase its sales in the US, up to 23 percent in June, with 16,867 units sold in the last month alone.

There is no doubt that BMW is currently working on the next-generation BMW 5 Series, the first spy images with the German sedan being shot today.

Looking from the side, the new BMW 5 Series seems to be quite similar to the current model. Of course, looks are deceiving as the thick camouflage layer hides the model’s design lines.

We are sure that we will find new bumpers, revised optical blocks and other minor touches. Under the hood, a new 150-horsepower three-cylinder engine is expected to be introduced.

We talk about a diesel engine with fuel economy figures as low as 3,9 liters/100 km or 60mpg US. Some powerplants will carry over from the current model but with some tweaks capable to improve the efficiency and performance.

BMW just released a video showcasing the facelifted version of the 5 Series vehicle range.

From what we can gather from the video, it seems the German car maker didn’t go wild with restyling the 5 Series, and maybe it’s for the best.

It is understandable that a car should go through some changes during its lifetime, but each should be backed by some sort of reasoning. Right now some facelifts seem to be uncalled for.

The 5 Series never was an ugly car, and BMW are quite aware of this. To this end, the facelift was nothing major, leaving the vehicle pretty much the same. The video starts with the 5 Series sedan, presenting it in its home environment, the city, then moves on to the Touring version, finishing off with the more recent Gran Turismo.

BMW also makes sure to present in their video some of the new features available on their 5 Series, namely the HUD, Driving Experience Control system and the iDrive touch system.
