BMW decided to create a special concept in order to properly celebrate the 75th anniversary of BMW 328, the most successful and best-looking sports car of the 1930s, as the Bavarians claim. Therefore, the 75th anniversary will be celebrated with a special concept, called 328 Hommage, a model that is set to be unveiled in front of the audience at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy.

At the exterior, the BMW 328 Hommage concept benefits from some parts found on the original model such as the old BMW double kidney grille, leather straps on each side while there are no doors, exactly as the originally BMW 328. Under the hood, the new German concept benefits from a 3.0 liter 6-cylinder engine but there is no word about the performance.

Even the original model celebrates its 75th anniversary, BMW claims that the 328 is the embodiment and a good example of what they stand for these days, especially referring to the aesthetics and dynamics. According to the official details, the new 328 Hommage concept is based on the Vision ConnectdDrive Conceptt unveiled by the Bavarians at the Geneva Motor Show.

Despite the fact that both Vision ConnectedDrive and 328 Hommage concepts are two-door roadsters, the concept that celebrates the original 328 somehow drops the high-tech look and adopts the old front grille, a special set of concave wheels and other elements we also mentioned above. However, besides the elements that reminds the original 328, the Hommage concept uses an innovative lightweight structure made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic which results into a total mass of 780 kilograms.

At the interior, BMW used the same CFRP material in order to achieve a lightweight structure while a bunch of details are reminiscent of the BMW 328 racing model. From them, we can mention the special windscreen, high-gloss aluminium safety buckles while a celebrating “75” plaque underlines the aim of this concept. The headlamps used for this concept are also reminiscent of the optical blocks used on the BMW 328, but this time, they are back-lit by LEDs, another good example of combining the modern technology with the traditional design.

The Germans plan to reveal the BMW 328 racing car at the Mille Miglia near Lake Como while a week later, both the original model and the new 328 Hommage concept will be showcased at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, somehow creating a conflict between tradition and modernity, as BMW claims.

BMW celebrates the 75th anniversary of 328, a sporty two-seater vehicle designed by Rudolf Schleicher and Fritz Fiedler back in the early 1930s. BMW 328 had been presented to the audience at the International Eifel Race which took place at the famous Nurburgring track on June 14, 1936.

The German sport model had been produced in a limited series of about 450 unit and according to the official press release, only around 200 vehicles are existing anymore these days. In terms of performance, the German roadster is powered by a 2.0-liter six-cylinder engine producing around 80 horsepower. Not very much, indeed, but considering that it weights just 780 kilograms thanks to a lightweight structure, every pony makes its presence felt.

The BMW 328 entered production a year later after the debut and after about one year, in 1938, the 200th unit had been delivered to its owner. In 1938, BMW 328 succeeded to win the competition in the 2.0-liter class and also obtained the 8th place in the overall classification.

As a conclusion, BMW 328 managed to win over 200 races since its debut and wrote history for the German company from Munich.

BMW concepts always incite the mind, BMW renders almost do better. To this respect the latest render to come from Russian designer Krasnov Igor.

This time, Igor unleashed his creativity on our favorite manufacturer’s coupe, more importantly a very extravagant BMW supercar. While you might not see a way for extravagance to fit BMW’s design, this might work.

It’s pretty damn gorgeous but I’ll keep that opinion of mine to myself as much as possible and try to see a pretty open minded look on it. I will admit to the lines that are a result of bold design such as a Russian mentality would come up aren’t what most people would like to see on their Bavarian creation but that being said it does borrow some of the asymmetry from the BMW X Coupe.

Other influences come from the BMW Gina Concept and as a real base can be found from the BMW 328. The car in itself is a roadster that would find a weird use in BMW’s lineup.

This wouldn’t be a competitor for nothing other than the Bentley Arnage convertible as opposed to the Continental GT because of the massive bulk it inspires.

Then again I could be wrong and this render should never leave the digital world.

This rebirth of the BMW 328 Kamm Coupe has taken place to celebrate the 70th anniversary of BMW’s win at the Mille Miglia.

The original Kamm Coupe was only built in a single unit and eventually sometime in 1953 saw its last day in a scrap heap.

This exact replica of the car has been built by BMW classics themselves and it has had an amazingly troubled birth. The initial project started in 1990 but due to lack of proper engineering information on the car they couldn’t actually build it despite the years of research.

However a few years ago they got the sort of information they needed, including stuff on the car’s tubular frame construction from a private collector who had detailed photographs on almost all aspects of this car. All the images provided by the aficionado eventually wound up being converted into a 3D model that eventually went to a five axis machine that managed to cut a full size copy out of this BMW 328 Kamm Coupe.

The man behind BMW’s 328 Touring Coupé and Mille Miglia Roadster restorations, meticulously crafted an aluminum body and who then set to work on the under-body panels is named René Große.
