The Germans from BMW recently announced that the new Performance Edition which initially was available only for the 335i is now going to enter the 1 Series range too. This new limited edition comes at a cost of $550 and mainly celebrates the production end of the current 3 Series range. The styling improvements brought by this package are few while the performance upgrades are also not very significant comparing to the high-sounding name of this limited edition.

“Performance breeds excitement and the BMW Performance Edition for the 2011 335i / xDrive Sedan ensures that new car buyers are in for that extra thrill beyond the outstanding performance that can already be realized with these exciting vehicles. Customers can now option their vehicles with a special BMW Performance Edition (option code ZMZ) that includes an all-new Power Kit, black kidney grilles and a “BMW Performance Edition” badge for only $550,” claims BMW.

For the beginning, the Performance Edition brings some extra horses for the 3.0-liter N55 engine thanks to the Stage 1 power kit. The total output reaches 362 horsepower on the BMW 135i which means that you get additional 20 horses and 43 Nm of torque.

The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h will be improved by around 0,2 seconds while BMW says that the additional power will not increase the fuel consumption or the CO2 emissions.

On the other hand, the aesthetic tweaks are even less significant, the Germans offering only a black kidney grille and some special badges. There are no details on this but most likely the new Performance Edition will be available for the entire 1 Series range fitted with the N55 engine, mainly considering that all the 3 Series range benefit from this limited edition, not only the 335i.

For now, BMW released only few details and no photos but they said that full information will be available somewhere next month. However, the insignificant amount of improvements will not spark too much interest among the 3 Series and 1 Series owners.

Finally there’s an end to all the rumors, guesses and estimates on the faith of the M badged version of the BMW 1 Series.

The confirmation came from Dr. Kay Segler, BMW M GmbH’s Managing Director and it took place in an interview given to German online magazine “Auto-News”.

It would seem than that all those spyshots of the BMW 1 Series prototype seen around the Nurburgring lots and lots of times and which had been rumored to be an M version of the BMW 1 Series E82 Coupe.

As to be expected, this model will not be sporting the M1 badge as that belongs only on the original M car and nothing else. Most likely it’ll be the 135i M or something of sorts but Segler did say that the car will be hitting the market around the second quarter of 2011. The production will be quite limited to start with.

While Mr. Segler wasn’t very generous with details this is still a set of good news that will probably fuel M fanatics and fans of the E82 until the car is actually available. One of the biggest sources for debate concerning this BMW will be what engine is going to power it. Most would say (same people who rumor the 135i M name) that it will be an upgraded version of the BMW 135i’s 3 liter turbocharged straight six engine.

No owner of the E82/E88 BMW 135i bought that car because it was slow but, as always, somebody came up with the idea of giving it more power.

The culprits this time come from Great Britain and are maned Superchips Ltd.

What they did is pretty much self explanatory within the title, they remapped the 135i’s ECU in order to achieve more brute force figures.

So, whereas in the standard car your 3 liter straight six twin turbocharged engine develops 311 horsepower the new chip map will raise the output to a more rounded figure of 360 horsepower. Pretty much same story with the torque delivery of the car as you now get 456 Nm at just 3359 rpm compared to the “old” 394 Nm of the basic engine.

Your Superchips remapped ECU will now take your E82/E88 BMW 135i from 0 to 60 mph in around 5.3 seconds and top speed is still the 155 mph we are used to from the Germans but the car will be getting there faster due to the extra torque.

Pricing for the ECU remap of the 135i is, in the UK, £445.00 including VAT (17.5%) and the upgrade will be available through 100 dealerships around the country.

On the internet there have been revealed or better said leaked some more details about the 2011 BMW 1 Series with the M sport package. Segler just said a few time ago that there are no plans for this 2011 BMW 1 Series with the M sport package but as we see, we have some so he had a plan when he said that.

I think there is no doubt for you that this M sport package is making this 2011 BMW 1 Series a lot sportier with improvements at the weight, braking system and handling.

I don’t know if you noticed but there is no improvement at the engine but this car will still be a sport car. It will come with a carbon fiber roof to have a low weight and a lower center of gravity. A very important thing is that this car will not be named BMW M1 because this is an unique name from the BMW history.

At the Geneva motor show, BMW will present the new performance kit wich will boost the 3.0 liter engine from 135i and 535i. The engine have been upgraded with 20 hp so from 300 hp will be upgraded at 320 hp. The torque is 317 lb-ft at the manual gearbox and 332 lb-ft at the automatic gearbox.

This new performance kit will come with an additional radiator on the outside of the engine and air flow ducts to help cool the engine. This new kit is available on the following models: 335i Convertible, 135i Convertible, 335i Coupé, 135i Coupé, 335i Touring and 335i Saloon.

This new performance kit really attracts my attention on these two models. Personally, these are the models that I can afford and that I love. The old versions of 3 Series can be found at second hand under a 2000 euros and the 1 Series have the aspect that makes me wish a car like this even more than a X6 and any other expensive car.

Do you remember the tuning company, Hartge? The tuning specialists at Hartge are doing a great job when they the hands on the BMW models. Famous tuner, Hartge, has modified the BMW 135i with an ECU upgrade from 135i standard version with 306hp (3.0 liter engine inline 6-cylinder twin-turbo) up to 350 hp and a maximum torque of 354lb -ft. Because of this upgrade ECU, the car has a great 0-60mph acceleration of 4.8 seconds, with 5 seconds faster than the standard version of BMW 135i.
This change came from Hartge and is not contains only in the upgrade of engine, they added some elements to the exterior and interior.
