The long-expected Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe has just been launched at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in full details and will soon hit the US market at the price of 118,225.

With the 2015 BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe making its own debut in the US at the New York International Show this April, the car will go on sales soon after.

The BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe will be available in the US with special features like a powerful 4.4-liter Alpina Bi-Turbo V8 engine, developing a good 540 horsepower and 540 lb-ft of torque.

The xDrive Gran Coupe is hooked to an 8-speed Sport Automatic Transmission with Alpina Switch-Tronic and all-wheel drive system.

More than that, the Alpina comes equipped with the high-performance stainless exhaust system with twin elliptical tailpipes.

The torque is given by the Electronic Damping Control and Active Roll Stabilization technology that work hand in hand with the all-wheel drive system.

The BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe has a top speed of 198 mph, as the car impresses with its effortless in throttling to maximum and making use of its powerful unit.

As one of our beloved models, the 2012 BMW 6 Series is pretty hard to fault. Still, there’s plenty of tuning companies out there that think there’s room for improvement.

When it comes to genuine tuning for a Bavarian products Alpina is definitely one of the biggest names you can call for help.

That’s why when Alpina announced the unveiling of their B6 tune for the F12 cruiser at the Tokyo Motor Show, we were bursting with joy.

BMW’s 4.4 liter twin turbo V8 engine gets a few tweaks, from what you’d usually get in the F12 6 Series, in the form of a new intercooler and a new exhaust.

The latter was developed in conjunction with specialist tuner Akrapovic, is made out of titanium and certainly doesn’t focus on being quieter.

Alpina’s tweaks to the engine ensure for a new performance output of 540 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. With that in mind it’s no surprise to see that it takes 4.4 seconds to go from 0 to 62 and that the top speed figure stops just 1 mile short of the magic 200 mph.

A modest re-tweak of the suspension is included in the Alpina B6 package together with a re-calibration of the traction control and ESP software. They’re there to ensure that even though you have some extra grunt, you don’t get caught out by it.

On the visual front the F12 BMW 6 Series gets Alpina’s traditional over-sized (but light) 20 inch multi-spoke alloy wheels and a few subtle aerodynamic mods.

Inside the Alpina B6 we see more of the same. Everything gets a very subtle refresh, just enough to feel different, special, if you will.

While BMW has a proper racing heritage the 6 Series is not one of the models that contributed much to it.

The car we have here may change things a bit as it represents the result of a project destined to prep the car for GT1 racing regulations.

The car starts out as a BMW 6 Series which then goes to specialist tuner Alpina to become the B6. Should that particular car be lucky enough, it might just end up being turned into an Alpina B6 GT3 which will see all of its life as a racer.

That is unless it ends up in the hands of the guys over at Aurora Racing Designs which will turn it into a GT1 spec racing car to comply with the new rules there. “The guys” are former McLaren engineer Nicholas Galbraith and former Alpina racing designer Andreas Puschel.

Going from GT3 to GT1 is a logical step for the car and Aurora Racing have taken over this project in an attempt not to affect Alpina’s customer GT3 racing program. The experience of the people behind Aurora Racing Designs will see the B6 GT1 going through some serious aerodynamic, structural and suspension changes in order to make it competitive.
