The German-based BMW carmaker has recently declared that all its high-end models in the United States, including the 2-, 3-, 6- and 7-Series, some models from the X lineup and the M versions will be equipped with the $300 Apple CarPlay package.

The news comes prior to Apple`s upgraded CarPlay system which would be launched next month with the iOS 10 system, which gives drivers the chance of using different functions while behind the steering wheel. For the moment, there are no words on the system`s functions.

Odd enough, there is no word on the possibility of fitting the 4- or 5-Series models, not to mention the X1, X3, X4 or the i3 and i8 plug-in hybrid with the system. Even if they do come with high-tech infotainment systems inside, they currently don’t support the new CarPlay package.

However, the carmaker has also stated that soon enough, all models in the United States would come with the Apple`s CarPlay system. The first models to be fitted with the system was the 230i and the M240i, at the beginning of the year, so it might take a while for the company to find a way to install the package on the rest of the model range.

BMW is not the only carmaker in the United States to be using the system on its fleet, thus joining Audi, Buick, Cadillac, DS Automobiles and Citroen, Ford, Ferrari, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Peugeot, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Skoda, Subaru, Suzuki, Volkswagen or Volvo. We should be able to find more news in the upcoming period.

BMW and Apple were reportedly in some negociations concerning the developing of the “Apple Car” project, which will be applied on the BMW i3 electric car. The report was sent out by Auto Motor und Sport auto online magazine.

However, the report has not been confirmed by the German carmaker, and according to Reuters, the company is not going to discuss any details concerning a partnership with Apple, according to which the OS from the company would be implemented on the BMW i3.

To state the report, the “Apple Car” was supposed to be manufactured by BMW and then sold out at the Apple Stores. Apple smartphone maker also intended to develop a new OS which would interact with the driving data and fuel consumption of the BMW i3 electric.

This would be a little bit awkward, since a spokesman from BMW has not initially ruled out the possibility of a future collaboration with Apple. “We are in regular talks with companies from the IT and telecommunications sector, including Apple, concerning topics like connected vehicles. Developing or building a car is not a topic of these discussions,” the spokesman said.

Owners of the Apple iPad that are interested in finding more detailed information regarding the new BMW X3 can now do it by installing a free application offered from BMW. A premiere for the German car manufacturer, the application features not only all the information one could ever ask for but also the possibility of taking a full 360 degree look at the BMW X3 via the iPad. Another very good thing is that videos are also available.

Launched at the start of December 2010, the BMW X3 application lets the users configure their vehicle with the help of the touchscreen and if a customer would want to, a test drive could even be scheduled by contacting BMW from a form found inside the application.

Facebook and other social networks also got the option of getting links and info that can be posted by the customers, thus increasing the BMW X3’s coverage.

We hope to see more models being implemented by BMW for the Apple iPad and it’s a very good thing that the car manufacturer is considering going down this road as more and more iPads are being sold.
