After BMW recalled the 2014-2015 X5 models for reporting airbag issues, it is now time for the one-off 4-Series to face the difficult task of being recalled to factory to solve the same airbag issues.

This time however, The BMW 4-Series concerns some errors found on the driver`s front airbag deployment, the timing being incorrectly programmed and in case of a serious car crash, it would not deploy on time to save the driver`s life.

The models which will have to return to factory involve the 2014 428i, the 428i xDrive, the 435i as well as the 435i xDrive, with all versions reaching a total number of 2,067 vehicles.

The NHTSA have also confirmed the programming error on the front airbag and stated that due to this issue, all affected vehicles must comply with the requirements of the FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard) No.208, and sent to factory to repair the problems.

This way, the owners of the aforementioned versions of the 4-Series Convertible will be contacted for a factory check-up and free of charge replacement. More than that, they are also advised to contact the BMW Customer Service at 1-800-525-7417 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

The BMW German based carmaker has sent back the X5 SUV to its factory, due to some airbag issues, which have affected the 2014 X5 and the 2015 X5 models. This comes after the carmaker has also issued a factory recall for around 1.6 million cars, concerning the 3-Series.

The factory recall was also confirmed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) which has stated that the HPS or the Head Protection System might present unstable connection to the airbag inflator gas generator, which would lead to improperly inflation in case of impact.

Fortunatelly, there were not any injuries or casualties due to the airbag issues, but the NHTSA has declared that urgent actions must be taken in order to prevent any unfortunate events. Thus, all affected models must return to factory. The affected ones are the xDrive35d, built between August 19, 2014 and February, 2015.

Other versions of the X5 are also recalled, such as the xDrive35i, the sDrive35, or the xDrive50i, manufactured between August 18, 2013 and February 16, 2014. All affected cars will have the Head Protection System replaced, free of charge. In case you own a BMW X5 with the aforementioned versions, than you should also know that the recall will start with April 1, and mind that this is not an April Fool`s Day prank.

Also, make sure you contact your nearest BMW dealership, for a proper and immediate check out, followed by a free of charge HPS replacement.

Vehicles on the streets today are fitted with a plethora of safety features designed to protect human life in case of accidents.

And most are there in the hopes that you ever get to see if they work. The problem is that you can’t really test them, either.

Thankfully, there are plenty of organizations born for this sole purpose, and they uncover safety issues with cars on the roads. Recently, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) found quite the big flaw in BMW’s products.

The issues affects the front passenger’s side airbag, and the NHTSA discovered that under certain condition, it won’t deploy properly, increasing the occupant’s chances of getting injured. The problem is widespread, not limited to just one model, with 76.565 units plagued. We mention the 2006 3 Series, the 2006-2007 5 Series and the 2006 X5, but not limited to them.

The recall will start in January, as BMW needs some time gearing up for the task. Affected vehicles’ owners will be notified in due time.
