When you think of BMW, you think of performance, elegance and precision. German engineering, most would agree, does not have rivals often. Even so, there are situations where errors appear. For a respected car manufacturer such as BMW, the main concern is customer satisfaction, which means that sometimes huge efforts have to be made in order to fix any faults that the producer might have overseen. As it happens, BMW has decided to recall 11,700 vehicles in order to fix an issue with the engine management software.

While the fault might not be that noticeable at first, rest assured that it could be dangerous if left unfixed. Simply looking at the way BMW decided to handle things is proof of how dangerous an issue with the car’s engine management software can be. The wrongly installed software, as BMW discovered, was the main problem for a couple of 5 Series and 7 Series models. While the issue does not seem to be quite hard to fix, the sheer number of affected vehicles meant a lot of time had to be spent in order to fix the issue.

BMW’s fast response shows the determination of the Bavarian automaker when it comes to satisfying its customers. Reputation can be increased greatly in such situations, on account of a professional approach regarding problem solving. Customers will not always check for a manufacturer to make as little mistakes as possible. They will also look at how that certain manufacturer solves unpredictable issues that may appear along the way. This issue with BMW’s engine management software for some models is an example of such a critical moment, in which the manufacturer has to react quickly and with great precision.

BMW has proven once again that it values its customers beyond any other thing. Thanks to the Bavarian automaker’s constant care for those that buy its products, BMW might actually have gained reputation instead of losing it, reputation that will prove valuable over time. The 11,700 vehicles in question will be fixed by BMW without any charge. This move shouldn’t surprise anybody, as the fault for this issue lies with the automaker and not the owners. All that remains to be seen is how fast BMW will manage to repair the 11,700 cars and how satisfied each owner will be with the time taken to fix the issue.

It is a proven fact that wagons don’t deliver the same performance and driving joy as their coupe siblings – perhaps this is why Americans are not that much into the wagon variants – but there are recently unveiled models from BMW that are almost as pleasant to be driven as real sedans or sport coupes. And one of them would be the 2017 5-Series Touring.

Officially unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the all-new 5-Series Touring is considered a real genuine European wagon, with impressive characteristics in terms of design and interior, and particularly with amazing performance underneath the skin.

Sure there are many differences that separate a sedan from a wagon, but in a certain way, the all-new 5-Series Touring is the perfect family car with outstanding characteristics. And CarWow magazine wanted to find out just that.

Mat Watson, famous journalists well-known for its straightforward opinions on cars, has driven the all-new 5-Series Touring and speaks very highly of it. He was particularly amazed by the car`s new air suspension which now comes standard, and can cope with all road conditions.

It is a fun and comfortable car to drive, even if it is way too large than the four-door sibling. With 570-liter boot space and an overall of more than 1,700 liters with the rear seats being folded, the Touring is still a great handler when it comes to power and torque.

Speaking of which, this particular model (530d) comes with a 3.0-liter straight-six diesel engine, outputting 265 horsepower and impressive 620 Nm of torque, which makes it quite fast from 0 to 100 km/h. And even for such a powerful diesel, the noise inside is barely noticeable.

The model is also at its technological peak, borrowing the same gadgetry line as the rest of the 5- or the 7-Series. This means the state-of-the-art infotainment system with touchscreen, voice command of rotary knob. We can add gesture control system, smart surround view camera system, remote control parking and the latest safety systems.

As usual, the 2017 Geneva Motor Show is not only hosting the world`s most prestigious models or concepts, as it also announces the World Car of the Award 2017, with six categories nominating the top three cars. The winner will be announced at the 2017 New York Auto Show, this April.

Amongst the sixth categories, we deliberately stopped at the World Luxury Car Award, which is topped by the gorgeous and extremely luxurious 2017 G30 BMW 5-Series. The list is completed by the Mercedes-Benz E-Class or Volvo S90 and V90.

As for the 2017 World Urban Car category, the BMW i3 all-electric was also chosen the first out of the three models, shortly followed by the Citroen C3 and the Suzuki Ignis.

Other models that will take the 2017 New York Auto Show by storm are those nominated in the SUV category – the Audi Q5, Jaguar F-Pace and the Volkswagen Tiguan, all exceptional models with exceptional features.

Until the future M5 breaks cover this autumn, BMW purists will have to settle with the all-new 2017 BMW 5-Series Touring, now available with the M Performance Parts and unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

Even if the range was already previewed wearing the M package, it is our pleasure to come back with new details. It is way too refined, sexy and extremely appealing to let it go without saying “Hello”.

What makes the new G31 5-Series Touring quite an eye-catcher is the extreme aerodynamics. It is aggressive and mean with the plenty of muscular lines, highlighted by the black kidney and exterior mirror caps made from carbon fiber, trim strips, front apron with two-part diffuser insert for the rear apron, matte black side skirts, rear apron inserts and much more.

The entire body style is complemented with the 20-inch aluminum forged alloy wheels with twin-spur design finished in Orbit Gray. The alloy wheels are wrapped with extremely wide tires which increase the car`s aggressive looks.
As for the braking system, the new G31 5-Series Touring with M Performance Parts comes with a four-piston fixed brake and single-piston fender saddle front and rear, respectively.

There are also other exterior elements that separate the variants from each other, like the new sports exhaust system for the 530i and 540i, also coming with a power kit for the B58 six-cylinder engine. This means that at least the latter one is now packing 360 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque.

On the other hand, the 520d, 530d and 530d xDrive are also equipped with the BMW M Performance Exhaust System Diesel with the special stainless steel sport muffler and trapezoidal tailpipes. Inside, all variants with the M Performance Parts have received the M steering wheel with Alcantara and red 12 o-clock mark, shift paddles with automatic eight-speed automatic transmission and so on.

BMW has brought a wide range of models at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, including the less-appreciated 5-Series Touring in the United States, the model joining the rest of the 5-Series with rather the same extraordinary aptitudes and gorgeous design.

Even if the American BMW consumers are not much of wagon lovers – and there are plenty of reasons for loving them, as they come with increase space and better practicality – with the introduction of the new Touring, they will definitely have something to chew on.

With or without the M Sport Package, the all-new BMW 5-Series Touring is not a modest wagon when it comes to exquisite design, playing with rather the same styling bits as the already famous G30 BMW 5-Series, adding however a better looking rear than most of what we find on the market today. On the contrary, it becomes extremely practical in terms of space.

The space is mostly highlighted by the trunk volume which grows in size to 570 liters, for a total of 1,700 liters with the seats folded down. The load capacity also stands by up to 120 kilos. Besides that, the new Touring also features an air suspension to the rear which can be adjusted for any particular loads. For instance, the rear seat can be split so that it can be unlocked from the trunk, providing thus enough space for plenty of items and luggage.

Technologically, the new 5-Series Touring comes with rather the same features as its sedan sibling, meaning the latest iDrive system, touchscreen and gesture control, BMW infotainment system, high-performance WLAN hotspot for smartphones, wireless CarPlay and much more.

Performance wise, the new 2017 5-Series Touring is set to come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, with 252 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, available in the 530i variant. In the 540i xDrive, the variant comes with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder with 340 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque.

On the diesels side, the 520d is available with a 2.0-liter flat-four pot with 190 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, being sent to the wheels via a six-speed manual transmission as standard, as well as an optional eight-speed manual gearbox. Also, the 530d is equipped with a 3.0-liter inline six with 265 horsepower and 620 Nm of torque.

Once on the market, the all-new G31 BMW 5-Series Touring will take on the likes of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate, Jaguar XF Estate or Audi A6 Avant.

BMW carmaker has recently released the official details of the all-new BMW 5-Series Touring just ahead the 2017 Geneva Motor Show which opens its gates tomorrow. It involves the 540i xDrive variant which is fully tweaked with the M kit.

The model looks extremely aggressive and muscular at the same time, with the exterior being highlighted by the plethora of carbon fiber components all around.

The M Performance kit comprises elements like carbon fiber front bumper add-ons, rear diffuser with lower section from polyurethane, side sill attachments, carbon fiber side mirror caps, black kidney grille, M Performance bars on the brake air channels, accent strips and a few more. The Performance logos are also visible on the car`s body.

The overall M aero package is complemented with the 20-inch lightweight alloys coming in Orbit Grey, and wrapped in 245/35 R20 and 275/30 R20 front and rear tires. You can also have it with a choice of bespoke braking system.

Inside, the cabin is also tweaked with Alcantara M Performance steering wheel, eight-speed automatic transmission with shift paddles and so on. The powertrain of the 540i xDrive Touring refers to a 3.0-liter straight-six turbocharged engine which can be upgraded to deliver an extra of 34 horsepower and 50 Nm of torque. That means a total of 360 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque.

Unlike the US citizens who favor petrol burners for their US-bound models, in Europe, people are crazy about the diesel models, especially since because they are more fuel-efficient and come with plenty of new gizmos in terms of drvivign dynamics.

In the UK for instance, BMW has thought very useful to introduce the 520d SE EfficientDynamics model, priced from at least £36,025 and coming with more exquisite features than the standard varaint. The UK customers also crazy about the diesels from the all-new 5-Series.

At the exterior, the car`s main highlights refer to the Active Air Stream Kidney Grille system which allows more variable control of the cooling air for the brakes, air conditioning and engine.

Under the hood, the 2017 BMW 520d SE EfficientDaynamics packs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, with 190 horsepower, available at 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque, available at as low as 1,750 rpm. The duel consumption is also fantastic, only 72.4 mpg/3.9 liter per 100 km), with the CO2 emissions also standing at 102 g/km.

The diesel is also fast, allowing an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds, achieved also thanks to a high-performance ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.

The new 520d SE EfficientDaynamics also comes with the ECO Pro mode with Proactive Driving Assistant, which is activated via the Drive Performance Control switch. It is connected to the car`s Professional Navigation system and keeps track of the braking system and other important features of the car.

Overall, the new 5-Series represents BMW`s efforts of putting everything it has got in order to create the perfect car, top to bottom, and through its exceptional capabilities it has indeed proven that it is worthy of being mentioned in the history books.

BMW has recently spread the word that it has started production of the all-new 2017 G30 BMW 5-Series at its second facility at Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria, and not at Dingolfing factory, as the latter one can`t handle the high demands that are already pouring in.

Speaking about the production of the 2017 G30 BMW 5-Series at Magna Steyr in Graz, Chris Collet, CEO of BMW Austria, has also mentioned:

”The BMW 5 Series represents the modern business giant of today. Comprehensive networking, intelligent driver assistance systems, an intuitive control system and highly efficient engines are the ideal conditions for driving the latest state of the art. Through the production in Austria the BMW 5 is the most important car in and for Austria.”

The production of the 5-Series started as promised with the BMW 520d with M Sport Package in Alpine White, and will continue with the rest of the range.

In case you didn’t know, the 5-Series range is the fourth to be built in Austria, after the X3, MINI Countryman and the Paceman models, with the factory already releasing more than 1.2 million vehicles all across Europe and other parts of the world.

The newly-added 5-Series will also be joined by other two Jaguar models, with the overall annual assembly sales to be between $6.6 billion and $7.1 billion, quite impressive compared with last year`s $2.2 billion. Don Walker, also CEO of BMW, has also declared: “So, there`s lots of going on Graz over the next two-plus years. This tremendous expected growth in assembly sales and volumes is a testament to Magna Steyr`s complete-vehicle expertise and the deep trust that OEMs have in Magna.”

Ever since its official announcement on the market last year, the all-new 2017 BMW 5-Series has been long-previewed and discussed in hundreds of media galleries and videos, with auto magazines all around the world driving all its variants in different tests.

Now, BMW 530d, which is the range`s one of the most powerful and appreciated diesel variant is popping-up into the spotlights, the model being recently announced in the United Kingdom with the M Sport Package. It costs at least £43,835.

For that money you get plenty of M Performance parts at the exterior as well as inside the cabin. Visually, the model stands out from the crowd with the M mods, like front apron with wider air intakes, new trims for the side skirts, rear diffuser with M exhaust system with two rectangular tailpipes, adding as well a wide choice of 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels.

The car has also received the M Sport Suspension system, which lowers its ride height for increased stance and driving characteristics. The interior is also highlighted by the new sports seats, M Sport leather steering wheel, aluminum trims and so on.

This indicates a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds, at a top speed of 250 km/h. The diesel is an excellent burner, managing a mixed 47 mpg and CO2 emissions of just 132 g/km.
