After popping up on the web in some renderings the other day, the 2016 F48 BMW X1 has now been seen in some leaked images, thanks to the guys from World Car Fans, who managed to take them from the Chinese website Autohome. This is a clear indication that the upcoming X1 is coming in 2016, wearing a distinctive body language and being equipped with a lot of performance features.

The leaked images offered here are not that great, but one could depict the differences between the future F48 and the present E84 from the start, as the 2016 BMW X1 is coming with a more rounded nose, resembling that of the 2-Series Active Tourer, along with other design changes like aggressive front fascia, sculpted hood, large air intakes at the front bumper, chrome inserts and much more.

Inside the 2016 F48 BMW X1, things are looking good as well, with interior elements also shared with the Active Tourer, especially talking about a much wider space, since this particular model will first come with a front-wheel drive layout, as opposed to the present X1, which sports a rear-end wheel drive. Later on, the carmaker will also introduce an xDrive25Li, with a longer wheelbase and all-wheel drive, especially prepared for the Asian market.

Under the hood, the 2016 F48 BMW X1 will be first fitted with the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder unit, with 231 horsepower in the most powerful version. In the United States, the upcoming X1 will come with 1.5-liter three-cylinder engines and six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions.
