The official successor of the BMW 1M, the recently unveiled 2016 BMW M2 which has been already proven a great success on the market, will be dropped in 2020, according to the German media.

A reliable source that maintains this statement is bmwarchiv.de as well, which is a well-known source in the auto industry dealing with the most accurate information on different auto subjects.

We should have expected such news, especially because the M2 Coupe was considered a limited model since its early beginning, a couple of months back. In its five years of existence, the model will be manufactured in just 2,200 units every year, reaching a total of 11,000 cars.

We are not sure if the model will be discontinued just to make room for a replacement or a future M2 Convertible, but the latter one seems more plausible, as other models have gotten their own convertible versions as well, just like the M4 or M6.

As a reminder, the 2016 BMW M2 Coupe comes with an extremely hot design built by the car`s M division. Inside, the M signature is also visible on the coupe`s Dakota Black leather steering wheel, sports seats, door sills, footrest, gearshift level and so on.

Under the hood, the 2016 M2 Coupe is packed with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, which outputs 370 horsepower and 465 Nm of torque.

Now, this Alpine White M2 pops-up in our news again, wearing a slight camouflage at the front, sides and rear end, which is a clear indication that the model will be tweaked with even more M Performance Parts.

The spy shots with this BMW M2 is showcasing the sports car with a cool aero package, consisting of new front aprons and updated side skirts, along with a revised rear diffuser, which might give away a new M Performance exhaust system with bigger pipes.

Inside, we should expect the same features seen on the one displayed at the 2015 SEMA, meaning Alcantara sports steering wheel, bucket seats or carbon fiber trims.

The BMW M2 has been rumored and long-debated but now we have the confirmation that the model is officially launched, the carmaker also revealing the full details.

The 2016 BMW M2 Coupe is based on the BMW 2002 and the E30 M3, becoming the top of the line version from the 2-Series, and out-passing the M235i with its complete M Performance package.

We also have the confirmation that the all-new BMW M2 Coupe is packing the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder wngine, with impressive 370 horsepower and 465 Nm of torque. The engine uses a standard six-speed manual, allowing a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The optional seven-speed M Double Clutch transmission with Drivelogic helps the M2 reach 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. The topping also at 250 km and 270 respectively.

Despite the sheer performance, the new BMW M2 does not come cheap in terms of fuel consumption. It burns out around 8.5L/100 km in the manual and 7.9L/100 km in the automatic.

From a visual standpoint, the 2016 BMW M2 looks like a top of the line model should look like, coming with a choice of four exterior colors, the Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Long Beach Blue metallic and Mineral Grey. The colors are complemented by a plethora of M Performance parts.

The entire body style is aggressive, thanks to the new low front apron with wider air intakes, M gills, wide rear with the M twin-tailpipe exhaust system, as well as the 19-inch double-spoke alloy wheels. Overall, the BMW M2 looks as sportier and aggressive as the M4.

BMW is ready to officially launch the 2016 BMW M2 in November, the deliveries starting at the beginning of 2016, but until then, new M2 test mules have been spotted cruising the streets of California. Two other BMW M2s were previously spotted while being tested on the Mojave Desert.

Judging by the photos provided by Bimmerpost, the 2016 BMW M2 spotted in California are wrapping the Alpine White, Mineral Grey as well as the Black Sapphire colors. Another interesting thing to be noticed is that the Black Sapphire M2 is coming with a sunroof, which confirms the initial reports, stating no carbon fiber roof.

Additionally, the 2016 BMW M2 will come with a 50:50 weight distribution between the two axles, thanks to the technological advanced chassis. More than that, the upcoming M2 will also fit the M limited-slip differential on the rear axle.

Already previewed, the 2016 BMW M2 will pack the updated N55 engine with some components taken from the S55 unit, seen on the 2-Series` top of the line M235i. BMW has recently sent two BMW M2s to be tested on hot weather conditions in the United States, presuming in the Mojave Desert, in order to observe how well the two test mules cope with the extreme weather.

We are talking here about two test mules wrapped with the Alpine White and the Black Sapphire colors, both of them also wearing camouflage from the door sills down, front to the rear end. And because of the camouflage, the test mules are lacking the flared fenders that popped up in some recent spy shots.

The 2016 BMW M2 will come with a 50 to 50 weight distribution and will underpin the same architecture, also seen on the present BMW M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe, the model being fitted with the M limited-slip differential on the rear axle, making it extremely efficient in terms of driving dynamics.

In the engine department, the 2016 BMW M2 will make use of the same N55 unit, also used on the M235i, but will come up with some power upgrades, thanks to some boost features, that would increase its power by up to 25 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, littles it is known about the full performance details, but we should find out more in November, when the model will hit the production line, with the first models to be released at the beginning of 2016.

The famous BMW M235i might lose the fame it has received so far, as the newly arriving 2016 BMW M2 is reportedly to be more agile, lighter as well as more powerful.

Reports have recently indicated that in order to gain the extra power, the M2 would have to lose some weight. The BMW M2 will be coming as the 2016 year model and will be officially launched at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September and will represent the 2-Series Coupe`s hot top of the line version. The German based carmaker will first introduce the version as a concept, before entering the production line this November.

As seen in the shots, the 2016 BMW M2 coupe is wearing a lot of camouflage around the body, meaning that it would sport significant updates. I am talking here about a more aggressive attitude, represented by the body kit, all tweaked with the M badges and complemented by the much larger alloy wheels. Inside, the model will be also revised.

After being caught on shots a couple of days ago, the 2016 BMW M2 is ending up in our news again, this time with some interesting news, according to which the model might receive an xDrive version, apart from the usual front-wheel configuration.

In case it will come with an all-wheel drive layout, the BMW M2 must shed some weight, finally standing at around 1530 kg, in order to cope with the new configuration and higher performance. The 2016 BMW M2 xDrive is also rumored to be first launched in the United States, at the beginning of 2016.

The 2016 BMW M2 will come with a lot of power as well, as the model will be equipped in its final version, with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder with direct injection, codenamed the S57 B30, and will produce around 370 horsepower. Mind that this 3.0-liter is not the same used on the M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe.

The power should be enough for the upcoming BMW M2 to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, when hooked to a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox, at a top speed of 250 km/h.

The 2016 BMW M2 will be officially unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show and once it will emerge on the market at the end of the year, it will have a starting price of $50,000 in the United States.
