As we are already used to the BMW luxury car manufacturer to bring the best in front, the company has done it again and managed to reveal the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

Everybody has been calling the car the “1 Series GT”, due to its power and high-tech equipment. Now, its official name will be the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

As we have also predicted so far, the production version kindly retains the styling of the Concept Active Tourer. There are though some slightly differences like the smaller kidney grilles and some different fascias. Inside, the car also retains the multi layered styling from the other late BMWs.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will be powered by the new engine seen on the Minis and FWD “UKL” platform, but the AWD models will also feature the motor. A longer-wheelbase version along with a third row of seats will be also available.

The BMW will be starting the push of the some new FWD on the market. Ian Robertson, the board manager states: “With the Active Tourer, we will get a lot of new customers again. They will come out of the premium segment and from some of the volume players.”

The F20 version of the BMW 1 Series isn’t exactly the latest of news when it comes to the Bavarian car maker but a special version of it is very likely to get an unveiling in Paris.

According to some reports, the BMW 1 Series GT will be unveiled at the French show. There’s still about 8 months until the Paris Motor Show starts but it’s nice to know what happens.

I’m very appreciative of this BMW decision for a very simple reason. They know their GT offerings haven’t gone brilliantly so far and are still perceived as something of a weird choice.

That just the sort of thing you want to unveil in Paris. For all its fashionable options and open minded attitude towards new stuff, this really might be the best shot the BMW 1 Series GT gets.

It’s not like anybody is denying the plus points of the GT option in a car, it’s just that BMW isn’t ready to let go of the unpleasant look these models come with.

If getting past the looks is easy, the fact that you don’t get a denied shot at the estate version (as it happened with the 5 Series touring) may prove beneficial to the 1 Series GT.

After all, the most compact BMW of the lot does tend to suffer when it comes to practicality and interior space; two areas the GT line was created for.

A bit of a curious option will be to watch if the guys over at BMW will step on their heart and make the upcoming 1 Series GT a FWD car.

All wheel drive is still in the cards, but for the sake of practicality, ditching RWD could prove useful. Enthusiasts would go mental though.

It is well known that the Germans from BMW are planning to introduce models benefiting from a front-wheel drive system, somehow against the tradition of the brand. Of course, we are not talking about the biggest and more important models in the range, BMW planning to fit some small-segment vehicles with the FWD system. Starting 2014, the Germans will reveal the 1 Series GT, a model adopting a front-wheel drive system. Later on, BMW might introduce the new traction system to other variants of the 1 Series range such as the Coupe and Convertible models.

However, this doesn’t mean that all the 1 Series models will be front-wheel drive as the Germans announced that the range can get up to six different body styles.

According to the first details, BMW will use the same platform that will underpin the next-generation Mini, scheduled to enter the market somewhere next year. We talk about the new UKL1 platform developed by BMW Group which will be also used by the British sub-brand most probably due to financial reasons.

Another important detail is that the first model within BMW’s range will be the 1 Series GT, a more practical version of the range, one of the six body variants BMW plans to introduce. However, we can’t predict if the new 1 Series GT will attract the customers or it will disappoint as the 5 Series GT in the United States. Well, the poor sales of the model mentioned above are mainly due to the fact the U.S. customers were waiting for a Touring variant.

The new UKL1 platform uses the Z-axle multilink rear suspension and MacPherson struts, the latest rumors announcing that a four-wheel drive system is more likely to be present too. Klaus Draeger, BMW Head of Development claimed that the German company will manufacture up to 800,000 units each year benefiting from the FWD system. Moreover, the same source adds that around 20 models in the range will benefit from the UKL1 platform in the next few years.

The Germans from BMW seem to have big plans for the second-generation 1 Series, a model officially introduced earlier this month in the five-door hatchback version. The official details of the new BMW 1 Series (F20) are available here while you can watch the first commercial of the German small family car here. Moreover, only two days away from the reveal, the Germans from BMW introduced the online configurator of the new 1 Series with the M Sport package.

Until now, nothing new, but some sources within BMW claim that the company has big plans with the new 1 Series generation planning to launch a total of six body styles of the model, variants scheduled to come gradually.

As expected, the first version will be the five-door hatchback, a model already seen in the photos with its debut in showrooms set for September this year, shortly after the reveal from the Frankfurt Auto Show. Few months later, most probably at the Geneva Auto Show, BMW will introduce the three-door hatchback variant of the new 1 Series, a model expected to reach the dealerships later that spring.

We know that both the five and three-door hatchback versions will be available as rear-wheel drive models while a four-wheel drive system comes as optional for those interested. As you know, the new 1 Series hatchback shares the same platform with the 3 Series but you will see in the end of the article that a new platform will equip certain body styles.

The following two variants will be the 1 Series Coupe and Convertible, models scheduled to replace the old generation somewhere in 2013. We already talked about the mysterious front-wheel drive model currently under development, a model that will cause some changes in the range. Therefore, the future 1 Series Coupe and Convertible will be renamed and will constitute the first model within the new 2 Series range.

Most probably by 2015, BMW looks forward to introduce a GT version of the current 1 Series while later an estate variant is rumored to enter the range. Introducing a Gran Turismo body style for the new BMW 1 Series can be a little bit risky as last month, the Germans reported extremely poor sales of the 5 Series GT in the United States.
