There’s an M3 currently on the market. It’s a great car but there’s a problem with it. We’re all aware its replacement is around the corner and there isn’t too much interest in it.

Buying one of these cars just in order to get it in your driveway will put you into a very unpleasant situation. Your new car will be outdated far too soon in your ownership experience.

Spending some extra money on tuning bits might make you feel better about it but then you might have spent more than the new car everybody’s talking about.

Is that really a chance you want to take? Can you seriously afford the money to do that just for some extra attention?

If you can, you might want to consider really going out on it. Why not have a car that’s brilliantly done for track racing?

That’s a place where you and your buddies can enjoy the pleasure of driving without having to worry about peer pressure and what reviewers thing about new models.

RS Racing can hook you up with a custom car that will really put you in the lead of any friendly competition. Just the engine might be enough to do that.

For instance, the 4.0 liter V8 gets pumped up from 420 to 450 horsepower without any loss in power delivery quality.

There’s a roll-cage, bucket seats, six-point harnesses, 19 inch wheels, racing tires and a fully adjustable Brillstein suspension.

On top of that we get a lightweight racing package which takes 420 pounds off the final weight of the E90 M3. Who cares about the F80 when this acts as a dedicated fun machine?

The restless child in me is seriously wishing the newest version of the BMW M3 was already out on the market and doesn’t really want to see spyshots anymore.

Unfortunately that’s not what we’re getting. The upcoming F80 BMW M3 was spied running about in the snowy roads around Arjeplog or whatever it’s going on.

The snow in this place isn’t that impressive. It’s not even all white and just look at that background, it’s pretty poor as well.

As you can see, my enthusiasm as to spyshots quickly wears off. It’s got a lot to do with how I consider I’ve already got a pretty good idea about what the next M3 will look like.

Either way, there is one thing that’s genuinely interesting about the brand new set of images we have of this particular M division product.

It’s actually in these photos that we get to see the new carbon ceramic brakes being put to some unusual testing. Most people who’ll buy them will use these cars on a track.

That’s where the brakes get really, really worked over whereas people living in colder environments might not enjoy them so much since they work best at high temps.

Maybe the Bavarians are making sure they’re still safe at those low temperatures or maybe they’re making it so they work regardless of outside conditions.

Either way, it’s impressive to see such expensive brakes being fitted (even if as optional extras) to the M3. It is supposed to be the best of the small luxury sport sedans, why not get this stuff?

Well, here’s a conundrum for the genuine BMW enthusiast. An E30 BMW 325i Cabrio is up for sale on the second hand market at a stunning price.

The stun isn’t the sort which would be generated by a supermodel stripping naked but the kind one gets in video games.

It really does stop you in your tracks and leaves you unable to do anything since this 21 year old car is valued, by the owner, at 42.900 USD.

The asking price is about the same BMW charge for an F30 3 Series which is powered by a 3.0 liter engine with quite a lot more toys inside.

Naturally, that’s something a bit over simplified since old cars have their own charm. Especially, the E30, a car that’s renown for its driving prowess.

This ludicrous price is justified by the fact that this car is basically in pristine condition. It only has 237 miles on the clock and has spent nearly all of its life under covers.

Aside from the painstaking attention to storing it, the car here was taken care of. All the fluids have been replaced everything was checked and the car just passed Arizona’s emissions test.

The interior is also in perfect condition with all the bits being perfectly restored or kept original and even features some bits that are nearly impossible to get a hold of these days.

With a bit of a stretch, you could call this a collectible. You could also call it a crazy purchase, without too much of a stretch.

Who knows, maybe some enthusiast cruising eBay will find his car interesting.

Indecision is, by no means, the best thing one could have in his life. In fact, it’s often quite the opposite. Businesses like BMW have somehow managed to cash in on it though.

Don’t know what to get between the F10 BMW M5 and the F12 BMW M6? Why not have both within the spirit of the 2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe?

The halfbreed was showcased at the currently ongoing 2013 Detroit Motor Show to one simple result. It appears to be more likable in “the flesh” than in shopped pictures.

There’s a difficult reality to wrap your head around in this car. It comes with the stunning looks of the M6, the practicality of the M5 (nearly) and still carries the same engine.

Being powered by a 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and having 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque on tap can really make it lively.

In fact, pushing it means you can get to 60 in just 4.1 seconds and the 155 mph cruise is easily done. Aside from the specs, the new selections of alloy wheels the M division uses here is very desirable.

Having showcased it in Detroit, BMW have presented the M6 to American customers who will soon be buying the four door supercar and annoyed us all with one simple fact.

The M6 Gran Coupe won’t actually go on sale until the summer. Further more, the pricing hasn’t yet been announced so we don’t even know how many pennies to count.

I’m pretty cool with it, I’m sure the bank I’m eyeing to rob will cover purchase and around one year’s expenses easily.

The Detroit Motor Show is loaded with stuff. They have cars, and trucks and like minivans, but they also have awesome concept cars to show off.

BMW’s 4 Series Coupe Concept is not exactly a surprise and despite the branding, it’s not that much of a concept either.

What it is, is something truly awesome. Something BMW could not hide from this time is how the new 4 Series looks like in the real world.

Flood lights, lack of photoshop options and the absence of a stunning background scenery could easily detract from the new looking coupe.

Would the svelte body look “fatter” this way? Would the carefully planned out details and sculpted shapes lose charm when things are more hectic?

That could easily happen and we’ve seen it happen over time on various occasions. This isn’t the case though.

The F32 BMW 4 Series Coupe Concept looks just as stunning in these more difficult to control conditions and that’s not something to take away from the Bavarians.

When it comes to the real world, the concept status will be dropped, some genuine naming will replace it. We expect the BMW 428i and 435i to be the most popular versions.

Vehicles which do get the popularity vote will be those with sportier versions of the big 3.0 liter straight six cylinder engines.

So far, we’ve heard of the F32 BMW 440i being an option in the lineup and it could be such a taste of the wonderful things to come with the new M4.

I hate going along the same route but I would have really loved to see a manufacturer mess up and mess up big at an official event.

Unfortunately, the Bavarians are not the ones to provide such an unusual satisfaction. They’ve kept their promise regarding the E89 BMW Z4 facelift they recently announced.

With the 2013 Detroit Motor Show having just opened up its doors, the Germans were ready with the official unveiling of the new Z4.

Alongside it, the rest of the models they promised to have in store for NAIAS were readily available. They really won’t give me any sort of hope.

While we did have a bit of a look at the car earlier on and the changes aren’t that revolutionary, there’s the Hyper Orange Package we need to talk about.

That’s an exclusive metallic orange paintjob which was hinted at in the press releases but it’s also something that really looks striking.

Under a bunch of flood lights, the reflective nature of this new paint shade really, really puts one retinas at strain.

It’s not something a BMW should do, not even one with a controversial design but since the Z4 is doing rather poorly in sales, a few unusual efforts might be what it needs.

Before receiving a smaller brother or a major overhaul that brings the sporty side, the Z4 will have to keep on being on sale in its current form.

I actually reckon the GT side really suits the E89 BMW Z4 and the sporty feeling in it is quite well kept in these conditions.

Well now, it is a bit of a situation we’re into, can you really trust the British to deliver some information on what Germany is working on?

Not sure about that one yet but there are a few reports coming in from the UK about BMW possibly creating a new model called the Z2.

The Z range has always been made up of fairly interesting vehicles, even if some of them weren’t as good as they could have been.

Building on such a legacy, what could a Z2 model offer? Hopes, discussions about such a model are about to skyrocket, but we do know a few of the ideas behind it.

Allegedly, the guys at BMW are looking into this car and they want to make it but they’re not being absurd about it.

Most chances are that it will be a slow seller so making a profit off such a car needs some serious control of the development costs.

Making the marker will almost certainly imply that BMW will need to make the Z2 one of their front wheel drive models.

Since the Z2 moniker some extra sportiness will be in store though so the UKL platform might need to get some BMW and Mini magic altogether.

In terms of engines, something more exciting was rumored. BMW’s brilliant N20 2.0 liter turbocharged engine might make a special appearance here with somewhere between 250 and 300 horsepower.

Bring it on, regardless of which wheels are driven, it should be an interesting product.

These guys are not messing around. After registering a great year in sales back in 2012 they’re simply looking to improve further in 2013.

After 2012’s 11% increase to a total of 1.85 million cars worldwide, the Bavarians are now targeting an even higher threshold.

This year has the promise of being a new record setter for them, building up on the momentum as well as the new products about to be introduced.

Throughout the group there’s bound to be quite a lot of releases, the F32 4 Series being the headline for me. The i3 eco-mobile is also bound to be coming about later in the year.

I was the one hoping for the new M3 and M4 coming in this year, but greed never really helped people since back in the eighties.

At least we can console ourselves with the fun promised by the new compact coupe in town, the F22 BMW 2 Series and its properly great fun in a petit package.

BMW sales and marketing boss Ian Robertson is also quite excited about the business perspective of the new year as BMW have opened up new plants and plan to ramp up production.

Breaching into new markets, building on a strong portfolio, increasing the marketing efforts is not only how they plan to take sales to a new level but also keep the competition at bay.

Audi and Mercedes are going stronger and stronger so staying one step ahead is probably as big a challenge as setting a new personal best.

Playing the sales games is something that BMW is clearly apt at but it’s also something they’re ready to share information about.

Within their company at least, things seem to be passed about. The corporate folks have just released some information on what their motorcycle division should do.

Knowing all this stuff, BMW Motorrad posted some clearly capable results with 2012 having gone out the window. December in particular was a success.

That’s not to say that the rest of the year was shoddy but it seems highly unlikely that a season reserved for cold and snow sells a lot of bikes.

Compared to December 2011, there was a 43.4% sales increase last month. Now that’s not something to sniff at, even if you’re BMW.

When analyzing the entire year from a global perspective, a growth factor of 2% remains. That translates into a record setting 106.358 motorcycles and maxi scooters sold.
The Husqvarna division also did brilliantly as it managed to up its game by 15.7% compared to what they have on record for 2011.

A few models did stand out among the two-wheeled runners of the company, these are the R1200GS, the F800GS and the S1000RR.

The F800GS was always a steady seller and the R1200GS’ air-cooled has sent into the garages of a lot of new owners.

Next year it’s going for liquid cooling so it might attract even more enthusiasts. Speaking of which, the S1000RR surprised by managing nearly 9000 units.

That really is remarkably, given the fact that we’re talking about a superbike that really loves hitting track days above anything else.

The car market is full of rivalries and battles between models that are bound to last longer than the Hundred Years’ War.

Reviewers and tests always try to pick a side and sort the conflict out but it doesn’t seem to happen. The situation is so bad that models from the same car maker are fighting themselves as well.

For instance, the revival of the BMW M6 alongside the M5 has begged the question. Which one? Why? Is the difference noticeable?

Jethro Bovingdon, associate editor for Car and Driver decided to post a serious question about this ongoing debate. He also tried to deliver the answer.

After a quick ticking off on paper and in a straight line, the scales were tipped in favor of the F10 M5. It’s value for money factor outweighed the minuscule performance gains of the M6.

However, once the old fashion comparison runs out and the very relevant nowadays track test comes in to question, the differences begin to emerge.

Due to the lower center of gravity, slightly lower weight and ultimately different optimization, the F12 BMW M6 quickly begins to outshine its four door brethren.

The conclusion is one that doesn’t mean to embarrass any of the models. It becomes obvious that the Bavarians have planned out the directions of these cars quite well.

Even if the M6 appears to cost more for not that much less, the difference is there. It’s also earning stripes for being a GT car that gets compared to the GT-R in terms of track performance.
