Check the Level of Damage

The first thing you’ll need to do after your BMW experiences water damage is try to determine just how bad the damage is. On the one hand, a minor amount of flooding may not have completely ruined your BMW. Check inside the car itself and look for a water line. If you can see that water rose all the way to the level of the engine, you may not be able to repair it. But, if there was just a little water on the floor of the vehicle, it may be possible to salvage your BMW. Remember: if you’re on the coast and your car was flooded with seawater, the salt can wreak havoc on your engine by causing corrosion and rusting.

Consider Filing Insurance

Do you have a car that’s practically brand new? If so, you may want to look into filing a claim with your insurance company. This is usually relatively straightforward, and can allow you to recoup some of the value of your vehicle.

Keep in mind, though, that you can only file a claim for your vehicle if you have the right kind of coverage. “Comprehensive coverage” (as it’s usually called) provides coverage for damage from natural disasters, including floods. If you do have comprehensive coverage on your vehicle, you may be able to receive payment for the value of your vehicle. Of course, that payment will come after your deductible has been accounted for.
