BMW is heavily testing the seven-gen 5-Series on the tracks at Nurburgring and the real proof that the model is soon to arrive as the 2017 model, is the spy video below, provided by the guys from the motor Authority online publication.

As seen in the spy video, the 2017 BMW 5-Series is wrapped in camouflage but even so, we might depict the body style it will come with. Judging by the spy photos as well, the new 5-Series will resemble in styling the current model, but instead will stand on the company`s new platform and will also tweak a lot of technology inside.

The 2015 BMW 5-Series will sit on the same 35up platform also underpinning the currently unveiled 2016 BMW 7-Series, meaning that the car will be lighter thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber and aluminum, will come with more space inside, improved performance and will be more fuel efficient.

The 35up modular platform will make the 2017 BMW 5-Series lighter, expecting a weight cut down of around 220 pounds than the present model, with the overall weight standing at around 3,300 pounds. This would give the possibility on integrating more performance engines or hybrid powertrains.

Speaking about performance, the 2017 BMW 5-Series will underpin four-, six- as well eight-cylinder units with direct injection and turbocharging configurations, while an M5 plug-in hybrid version will also emerge on the market.
