News on BMW Motorrad K1600 GT/L engines range

According to BMW Motorrad, the K 1600 GT motorcycle will benefit of a 1.6 liters six-cylinder engine. Also the K 1600 GTL motorcycle from the same manufacturer will be affected of this change. The new six-cylinder engine is capable to develop 160 hp and 175 Nm. This new engine is the biggest one ever made by BMW Motorrad, with a displacement of 1649 cc, not a big one, though.

First images of the new six-cylinder engine created by BMW Motorrad appeared on the Internet. The new engine will equipp the K1600 GT and K1600 GTL BMW Motorrad’s models. BMW Motorrad promises a low consumption, a compression ratio of 12.2:1 and also 125Nm from the new engine.

The end of the road for BMW M5 E60/E61

The production of the current generation BMW M5 ended. The model is powered by a V10 engine and is offered in sedan and wagon body versions, and, officially, the model is out of production.

Even the model is now officialy out of production, the model won’t be forgot too fast, because it broke a popularity record: in its 5 year time of life, the German model from BMW was sold in more than 20.000 units.

Steering Problems for BMW Z4 in the U.S.

NTHSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) is about to force BMW to recall a large number of Z4 units. The reason for this possible recall is that steering problems may appear.

We recently talked about the Alpina event at Goodwood. I am talking about the revealing event of the new model from Alpina, the model that I like to call it the 500 horswpower 5 Series, B5. Many manufacturers revealed new models or special editions of existing models at Goodwood, Mercedes also revealing the special edition Mercedes C63 AMG DR520.

Although the Alpina B5 will offer a close horsepower amount compared to the future M5, the new Alpina B5 adopts a different transmission. Is about the ZF gearbox unit with eight reports, increasingly used by the premium manufacturers. On the other hand, we can expect that the future BMW M5 to use a manual double-clutch transmission.

Skinless body of the future BMW city model

The future city model of people from BMW will have a plastic structure reinforced with carbon fiber. The structure is as strong as steel but much lighter. After we presented you a teaser image of the future city model that BMW is preparing to launch in 2013, the Bavarians have published very interesting images from the safety tests showing how the structure and the chassis of the future citycar of the Bavarian manufacturer is tested.

BMW focuses in the images on the internal security structure of the new model, the innovative material used in its construction (plastic reinforced with carbon fiberor or CFRP) providing the same level of structural rigidity that it reaches a steel chassis while the total mass is similar to an aluminum structure. The structure of the CFRP is developed by BMW partners from SGL Automotive, which – according to the Bavarians – developed an effective solution to counter the high cost of repairs to the chassis in the event of an accident.

First sketch with the BMW MegaCity expected for 2013

BMW released the first sketch of the compact electric model that will result from the Megacity project. Expected in 2013, the model will adopt an electric engine on the rear axle. About the BMW Megacity project has been written alot but no one was able to pinpoint the design direction that will take the Bavarians for the small electric models. Today, the Munich manufacturer has decided to give media and fans a first idea of how the new Megacity will look like, the compact electric expected to begin on the streets in 2013.

Carbon fiber aerodynamic accessories for BMW M3

People at BMW offer in Europe plastic elements reinforced with carbon fiber available so far only on a special package in the U.S.. BMW M3 owners and customers will be able to buy a carbon fiber aerodynamic package. It is composed of three elements – a splitter for the front bumper, a spoiler for the trunk lid and a set of caps for the side mirrors. These items were offered so far only in the United States alongside the M3 Competition package. Now, these accessories are available to any owner of M3, even it’s coupe, sedan or convertible.

All parts are rigid, light and aerodynamically efficient. They are made from CFRP – carbon fiber reinforced plastic. With a rolling process, these elements are protected from ultraviolet rays and will not degrade in any way – being excluded the possibility of yellow striped texture or cracks. From he same material is made also the optional roof panel of the E92 M3 Coupe.

Important news on BMW 1, 3, 5 and 7 Series

BMW announces the introduction of the xDrive all-wheel drive to the new generation 5 Series range and the launch of a M package for both body model variants. BMW announces a series of significant changes in the range, the main target being 1 Series models, the 3 Series, 5 Series, X1, Z4 and 5 Series GT.

The main news is the introduction of the xDrive all-wheel drive on the new generation 5 Series model, referred to the 550i and 535d diesel version with six-cylinder and 306 horsepower. BMW 5 Series GT Series isn’t forgotten, the xDrive will be found in the 550i and 530d versions. BMW 7 Series receives also the four-wheel drive xDrive on the the 740d.

Official: Alpina B5 revealed at Goodwood

Alpina brought to Goodwood the new B5 model, the 500-horsepower version of the 5 Series model, able to compete even with the next generation M5.

As promised, people from Alpina brought at Goodwood its future rival for BMW M5. Developed based on the new generation of the 5 Series model, the 550i version, model called B5, proposes an interesting combination of power and performance. This time also the tuners choosed to not use the V10 engine from the M Division, preferring to intense modify the current 4.4-liter V8 engine.
