2012 BMW 1 Series hatchback (F20) officially revealed after premature leak

Shortly after the premature leak of the new 1 Series generation, codenamed F20, the Germans from BMW decided to reveal new photos with the Bavarian small model that is scheduled to meet the audience at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Of course, the new photo gallery comes together with all the technical and performance details, the engine range of the model being revealed too. As expected, the Germans dropped the six-cylinder units and are now offering a total of five engine choices, four-cylinder units with TwinPower Turbo to be more precise.

Until then, we can note the increased dimensions, the new 1 Series F20 being 85 mm longer than the predecessor, the width being increased by 17 mm as well. A longer wheelbase is also available, a total increase of 30 mm providing more space for the passengers.

This is not our first contact with the upcoming 1 Series generation as the German model has been caught several times during tests but for sure this will be the most interesting post for the new small family car as, somehow, a large photo gallery with the new BMW 1 Series hatchback (F20) surfaced. The German model is revealed in a set of high resolution photos that most likely appeared on the Internet without BMW’s permission as they released no official details on this.

Even if we talk about leaked photos or not, we are extremely happy to get a full perspective of the design philosophy adopted by the Bavarians. Without doubt, the exterior of the new 1 Series hatchback received significant changes mainly if we are looking at the front and rear optical blocks.

BMW is trying to expand even more the limited edition range of the current M3 E92 designed for the Chinese market. If few months ago the Bavarians released the M3 Tiger and M3 Matte special editions, this time they came up with a new variant, called Carbon Edition.

The BMW M Legendary Experience event held last week was the perfect place to release the model. Sadly, I have to tell you that the M3 Carbon Edition brings nothing about a revised aesthetic part including, of course, carbon fiber components. Therefore, power comes from the same 4.0-liter unit able to deliver 414 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. With these resources and a little bit of help from the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the German model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,6 seconds while the top speed is limited at 250 km/h.

Sadly, the new video teaser reveals no new information on the total output of the high performance German model but it seems that will get all the interesting information ahead the Frankfurt debut. To be more precise, the Bavarians somehow indicate us that the model will be unveiled at the M Festival which will take place between June 23 and 26th.

BMW officially ends the current 3 Series Sedan production in October

The Bavarians from BMW officially announced that the current 3 Series Sedan (E90) will be pulled out of production in October 2011. This decision mainly comes due to the fact that the next-generation 3 Series, known as F30, which has been surprised several times in spy photos, is expected to enter the market early next year, in the spring to be more precise.
