The Pickup version of BMW M3 spotted on Nurburgring, just a joke

Recently, the engineers from BMW were spotted on Nurburgring while testing a model that most probably shocked few people around. We talk about a pickup version of the current M3 generation. In the beginning, they managed to leave us speechless as the combination of a sports car with the purposes of a pickup model were not blending very well together.

Today, BMW announced through a press release that the pickup model was just a joke prepared for April Fool’s day. However, at that moment, everything seemed to be serious as the prototype got its layer of camouflage and other features for a prototype being under serious tests.

With the purpose to attract extra 1 million customers by 2020, the Germans from BMW decided to create a 50-50 joint venture with a very important car rental company, Sixt. Thanks to the new DriveNow program, you will be able to rent a BMW or Mini vehicle very easy using your smartphone or internet starting April 1st.

This service developed by BMW and Sixt will be available for the beginning in Munich and will involve about 300 Mini and 1 Series vehicles, additional 500 units following to be available shortly in Berlin. Moreover, the Bavarians plan to extend this partnership outside Germany and starting 2013 to make available models within the new i range.

Prior Design announces 6 Series Coupe F12 tuning package

If few days ago the Bavarian from BMW officially introduced the new 6 Series Coupe F12 ahead its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show, today, another Germans, but this time from Prior Design, decided to give us a sneak peek on the first tuning kit designed for the new generation 6 Series.

From the start, Prior Design states that we face an aerodynamic kit and there are no details about any improvements available under the bonnet for the German coupe.

G-Power develops 725HP X6 M Typhoon S

If you consider that the M version of the Bavarian SAC is not powerful enough for your needs, the German specialists from G-Power offer the Typhoon S tuning kit for the current X6 M, a package able to improve the performance alongside the exterior and interior appearance.

Outside, BMW X6 M gets 23-inch alloy wheels, a carbon fiber hood with air intakes and a revised front bumper which also benefits from some huge vents. In the rear, G-Power fitted a carbon fiber diffuser but also a new quad-pipe exhaust system that boosts the performance.

If the new member of the i family is very similar to the previous BMW Vision EfficientDynamics in terms of aesthetics, under the bonnet the situation changes a little as the Germans can’t exactly figure out which is the best combination for the hybrid powertrain.

The new MotoGP Safety Car is a BMW 1 Series M Coupe

This year’s season of MotoGP is ready to debut with the Losail race in Qatar and the Germans from BMW proudly announced that their all-new 1 Series M Coupe will be the official Safety Car this season. Of course, the German model received a special paint job along some “Safety Car” stickers, a rear wing and a new set of 19-inch alloy wheels fitted with 255/35 tires front and 285/30 rear.

A pair of LED lights make their appearance in the front grille while the the technical improvements include a high performane four-pipe Akrapovic exhaust system, a new sports suspension but also a revised braking system.

The Bavarians recently revealed a video promoting the new BMW M5 F10. The model is being tested on snow somewhere in Europe and it is almost ready for the debut scheduled for the Shanghai Auto Show. The fifth generation M5 packs almost the same V8 unit that is currently available for the M versions of X5 and X6.

More exactly, a 4.4-liter twin-turbo engine provides power for the German sports car while a seven-speed DCT dual clutch transmission takes care of the rest. The V8 engine is able to develop up to 592 horsepower, thus, we talk about a slightly revised unit comparing to the one found under the bonnet of X6 M.

Dr. Norbert Reithofer, BMW’s chairman announced a new range of vehicles called NEV (New Energy Vehicle) is about to debut at the Shanghai Auto Show. The first model to bear the NEV badge will be the current 5 Series generation benefiting from the extended wheelbase.
