Last month, the Germans from BMW officially revealed the first two members of the new i family, the new i3 and i8 to be more precise. However, the models were bearing the “Concept” badge which means that the production version of the models in question could suffer some modifications over the vehicles presented at the press conference in Germany. Even so, the German company took out the two eco-friendly vehicles out for a photo shooting somewhere in Chicago, a perfect opportunity to see some real footage with the futuristic looking models.
It seems that BMW faces a possible recall these days as the flagship 7 Series (E65/E66) received some complaints, the customers complaining about the safety of the model as there are some issues with the Park shift. The customers reported rollaway incidents after parking and exiting the car, a serious problem which required the attention of NHTSA (The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Fortunately, there were no injuries or deaths due to this issue certain versions of the BMW 7 Series.
According to the official information, around 120,000 units are under investigation as there are more than few complaints regarding rollaway incidents after parking. The models concerned are all the 7 Series units manufactured between 2002 and 2008, vehicles equipped with the Comfort Access system.
Once again, BMW Group has some good reasons to celebrate as the German company reported increased sales for the previous month. Few weeks ago, the Bavarian company released sales figures for the first six months of 2011, announcing an all-time record of 833,366 units, an increase of 19,7% comparing to the same period of the last year. Today, we find out that July is also continuing the ascending trend in terms of sales with an increase of 7.6% for BMW Group.

We have some interesting news for all the BMW fans worldwide as the German company might introduce a diesel version of the current M5 F10. This would be a first for the Bavarian manufacturer as all the M models released until now were offered only with gasoline engines offering maximum power somehow regardless fuel consumption. The surprising information comes from a German publication who managed to get its hands on some documents which certifies that a diesel variant is very likely to be seen on the roads soon.
The journalists from Motor-Talk managed to get this document where besides the usual versions, a new M550dX variant was listed. Of course, is still early to know if there undoubtedly will be a diesel M5 but the Germans have quite enough reasons to extend the offering.
BMW Group decided to release the results of the trial program launched in the UK in December 2009. This project involved 40 Mini E electric vehicles and lasted for 12 months, until March 2011. The Oxford Brookes University analyzed the results and did the research, the final figures being more than satisfying for BMW’s sub-brand. A total of 40 MINI E vehicles were given to 76 pool users and 62 citizens in a project conducted in two stages.
Kulveer Ranger, Mayor of London’s environment director, said: “Electric driving technology is coming on leaps and bounds, but people naturally still have questions and concerns. Research such as this by BMW Group into real life experiences is invaluable as it debunks some common myths and underscores why electric vehicles are perfect for urban driving.”
The Germans from BMW announced their intentions to extend the engine range of the current BMW X3 generation, internally known as the F25. Therefore, the plan to introduce a number of two new turbocharged units which will be available starting this fall. The first unit is going to be the new entry level engine while the second one will be the most powerful unit available for the German compact crossover, but as mentioned above, they will be available only later this year.

Now this successful Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) is about to extend its lead even further on the efficiency front,” says BMW.
It seems that the newest member of the M family gets more and more attention from tuners, a new package being revealed today by Asian specialists from RevoZport. The good news is that the 1M Raze P450 brings both aesthetic and performance improvements, the latter upgrade being something really interesting considering that the German model already has a big potential on the circuit as we have seen in this video where a BMW enthusiast raced against a BMW M3 CSL on the Nurburgring.
RevoZport focused on reducing weight and adding extra horsepower by operating some basic tweaks for a tuning house. To be more precise, the tuning house revised the ECU unit, added a titanium exhaust system along high-flow air filters and a new intercooler.
Here we have a very interesting race against the freshly revealed BMW 1 Series M Coupe and the older but more powerful BMW E45 M3 CSL. Another important thing to know is that behind the steering wheel are not professional drivers but BMW enthusiasts. However, the result is pretty impressive and we can clearly see that the new 1M Coupe is a quite decent racing car even compared with a renowned model such the previous-generation M3 CSL.
The race has been held at the Nurburgring circuit, the gap between the two German models being somewhere around 25 seconds. To be more precise, the BMW M3 CSL lapped the famous German circuit in 7:50 while the smaller 1M Coupe in 8:15.
As you probably know, the Bavarians from BMW already revealed the new i3 and i8 models at a press conference held few days ago. For now, they presented just the concept version of the models in question but in fact they are pre-production vehicles which will suffer only minor modifications as mass production models. The fully electric BMW i3 is scheduled to hit the dealerships in 2013 while the plug-in hybrid BMW i8 sports car will be available later that year or starting 2014.
Today, we will discuss on all the important information we got from BMW since now while in the end of the article we will watch some videos where the Germans both presented and explained the first two models bearing the new i badge.
