Shortly after the premature leak of the new 1 Series generation, codenamed F20, the Germans from BMW decided to reveal new photos with the Bavarian small model that is scheduled to meet the audience at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Of course, the new photo gallery comes together with all the technical and performance details, the engine range of the model being revealed too. As expected, the Germans dropped the six-cylinder units and are now offering a total of five engine choices, four-cylinder units with TwinPower Turbo to be more precise.
Until then, we can note the increased dimensions, the new 1 Series F20 being 85 mm longer than the predecessor, the width being increased by 17 mm as well. A longer wheelbase is also available, a total increase of 30 mm providing more space for the passengers.
The luggage space has been increased as well reaching a capacity of 360 liters, 30 liters more over the current 1 Series. Back to the engine range, as mentioned, BMW offers a choice of five units, two petrol and three diesel units. BMW 116i comes with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit that is able to deliver 136 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque being able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8,5 seconds. The top speed of the model is 210 km/h while the average fuel consumption spins around 5,5 liters/100 km.
The second petrol version, 118i, features a more potent 1.6-liter unit able to offer 170 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque while the fuel consumption increased by 0,3 liters/100 km. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is done in 7,4 seconds while the top speed increases to 225 km/h.
If you are looking forward to fuel-optimized engines then you can opt for the 1.9-liter four-cylinder unit which comes in three different power variants. On the 116d, the unit in question develops 116 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque providing the best fuel consumption, only 4,3 liters/100 km. BMW 118d is able to deliver 143 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque, the fuel consumption increasing only by 0,1 liters/100 km while the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 8,9 seconds which is 0,4 seconds faster than the 116d.
The most powerful diesel, namely 120d features the same 1.9-liter four-cylinder engine but is able to produce 184 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque making the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h possible in 7,2 seconds. Once again, the fuel consumption figures are almost the same with an average consumption of 4,5 liters/100 km. The standard Start/Stop system that equips each engine significantly improves the consumption of the model.
