The Bavarians from BMW released an interesting video presenting the new three-cylinder engine that follows to be introduced soon. Specially designed for BMW and MINI models, the new 1.5-liter unit, which has a 500 cc displacement on every cylinder.
The new 1.5-liter engine will most likely develop somewhere around 150 horsepower and will be fitted on the front-wheel drive models that are ready to debut.
According to some unofficial sources, the new three-cylinder engine won’t fit the new generation BMW 3 Series as the following video shows that the engine is mounted transversely, something which may cause some problems in case of the next-generation 3 Series.
Using this little engine on FWD and MINI models is somehow an understandable decision as the engine won’t be available to provide enough power for bigger models. In terms of technical features, systems such as Twin Power turbocharging and Valvetronic will be available, this engine promising reasonable performance and optimized fuel consumption.
