Spy Photos: More about 2012 BMW ActiveHybrid 5 Series
The hybrid version of BMW 5 Series F10 was caught in these spy shots during test. Though it has the same appearance as a standard F10 5 series, the model had a very thin layer of camouflage, the model was equipped with a series of stickers that specified the model is a hybrid vehicle test.
This type of sticker was applied to other test models from BMW, such as hybrid version of 7 Series F01, the hybrid version of X6 and the hybrid powered by hydrogen based on 1 series hatcback. Given that BMW already offers two hybrid models in the range, and one of them is comparable in dimensions with the 5 Series F10, we can expect that the propulsion train to be taken directly from the 7 Series ActiveHybrid.
Thus, BMW 5 Series hybrid could be equipped with a supercharged engine with six cylinders in line, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission that can be geared to a 40 kW electric engine. For now though, the drive train for this model remains questionable.
