BMW is preparing to introduce in 2012 the series version of Gran Coupe concept presented last days in Beijing. The final model will be a top sedan with sports features. Seen as a four-door sedan that combines the exclusivity of a Gran Turismo with fascination and performance of a sports model, Gran Coupe is expected on the market in 2012.
The development process will be long for the Germans because they will use the same platform found on the 7 Series, 5 Series and 5 Series Gran Turismo and the same six and eight-cylinder engines from the current range. Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW chief designer, claimed that Gran Coupe point to a particular model, to a sedan model with the presence of a 7 Series, but more dynamic, more sportive, oriented to the driver. “We believe we must do this car” said Hooydonk.
It seems that Gran Coupe continues the idea of CS concept that was inaugurated in 2007 and points to a high sports top of range, that has been put on hold in recent years because of the attention given to the Megacity project.
