After BMW announced that they are ready to develop models with front-wheel drive, head of the Munich brand has done another shocking statement. It seems that the manufacturer known for inline six-cylinder engines that they develop could produce engines with three cylinders. These engines would have to equip approximately 1.5 million units per year. The new three-cylinder engines are designed both for BMW and Mini models.

The new BMW’s engine family will be created considering the front-wheel drive system designed for small class model of the German manufacturer. Also, these engines will be used on the rear wheel drive platforms. The front-wheel drive platform made by BMW is designed to support both the three-cylinder engines, but also the units with four or even six cylinders. The implementation of the new engines will increase BMW’s sales at a level never seen before.
