March 7th – Historical day for BMW
Are you wondering why March 7th is a historical day for BMW? If you are a fan of the brand, you should know. But if you don’t know it’s okay, we’ll explain why. First of all, and the most important thing which happened in March 7th is the union of Karl Rapp and Gustav Otto, which led to the genesis of BMW.
In March 7, 1916 – Karl Rapp and Gustav Otto, are joining the two companies, from the merger resulting Flugzeugwerke AG Bayerische (Bavarian Aircraft Works). Later, the company became Bayerische Motoren Werke, but the BMW‘s date of birth is recorded in March 7, 1916.
As the official name suggests, BMW began as a manufacturer of aircraft, later moving to motorcycles and then cars. The BMW logo, which is a propeller airplane, is actually an evolution of the Mottorenwerke Rapp logo, stylized with the white and blue colors of Bavaria land to produce propellers effect.
