BMW 328 Mille Miglia, a name after any collector and horsepower lover sighs. It’s beautiful, is rare, it’s sport, it’s BMW, is every connoisseur’s dream. Only 300 copies have left the gate of the Bavarian manufacturer. One of them will be auctioned on May 1, at a ceremony hosted by the paradise of the people with money, Monaco.
The history of the bolide that will be put up for sale is as fascinating as the car itself. It was built especially for the famous Mille Miglia race in 1940. But after the Second World War, the car was stolen by the Russians and taken to Eastern Europe, where it spent several years. The current owner bought it in 2001, but now is willing to part with it.
The performances are remarkable for that time and comparable with those of a today series vehicle. It have a 2.0 liter engine with six cylinders placed in line, developing 80 horsepower and maximum speed is 160 km/h. Wilhelm Mayrhofer, a famous designer who worked for BMW, is the one which specially worked on this model. He sought to improve the performances throught aerodynamic and weight. Moreover, this model weighs only 780 kilograms.
