First BMW Electric Cars starting 2013

BMW announced that will enter the market in 2013 two electric models: ActiveE and Megacity. In this sense, the factory in Lepizig will focus exclusively on the production of electric vehicles. The ActiveE is based on 1-Series and Megacity apparently is a version of Isetta.

BMW factory in Lepzig was opened in 2005, and according to the company, can adapt quickly to the production of electric cars. The BMW Group will construct at Leipzig the car of the future. This decision was taken in the light of qualities offered by Germany: we tested production here, as well as high level of education, said president of BMW, Norbert Reithofer.

BMW X6 ActiveHybrid transmission system consists of a V8 petrol engine that develops 407 hp, with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and two synchronized electric motors, which provide 91 hp, 86 hp respectively, and the BMW 7-Series ActiveHybrid is the first car that combines a V8 petrol engine, the eight-speed automatic transmission and an electric engine.
