BMW presented the first pictures and informations of the ActiveHybrid 5 Concept, the model that will debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
BMW presented the first official images of its ActiveHybrid 5 Concept version. The model is the hybrid version of the 5-Series F10 and is expected to go into production somewhere in 2011. The hybrid based on the BMW 5-Series will be the third model of this kind of range after the release of the ActiveHybrid BMW X6 and ActiveHybrid 7.
The new hybrid from BMW takes the system from ActiveHybrid 7 with a more powerful engine, developing 54 hp. The new hybrid based on 5-Series F10 would be able to move only on electricity at low speeds. Compared to ActiveHybrid 7 and ActiveHybrid X6, the model based on 5-Series will not use a V8, but a N55B30 engine that offers 306 horsepower. The hybrid system of this model benefits from a clutch located between the electric engine and the internal combustion engine, enabling the latter to stop during operation of the electric engine.
