BMW, Peugeot and Citroen will extend their collaboration for the development of Euro 6 engines with four cylinders and introducing them before 2014.
BMW and PSA Group, Peugeot Citroen, will expand their partnership to develop their four-cylinder engines for a new propellant. It will comply with the Euro 6 and will be available both in 1.6 liters version, and a new version, the 1.4 liters. Although the Euro 6 standards will become mandatory only in 2014, those from BMW and PSA will launch the new propellant some time before their introduction in the EU standards.
BMW and PSA have a successful partnership for developing engines, it facilitates the exchange of technology between the two manufacturers. THP 1.6-liter unit found on the C4 and Peugeot 207 was developed by French, side by side with the Germans at BMW. Mini Cooper S uses a turbocharged version of that engine which offers 175 horsepower. French version of this engine offers 152 horsepower. The new propeller which the three manufacturers will develop will be used both for Mini, the new Citroen C4 and Peugeot 207.
