BMW 135i will get the N55 Engine and the DCT Transmission – Technical Details

From spring 2010, those from BMW will replace the N54 engine from BMW 135i with the new N55 that develops 300 hp and 406 Nm.

BMW 135i will get a new engine, N55B30, which will replace the current N54B30. The engine started on the new 5-Series GT, 535i version, and will be also available on the 335i version. Three-liter engine and six-cylinder is turbocharged by a twin-scroll turbine and provides 300 hp at 5800 rpm. Maximum torque offered by new unit is 406 Nm and is offered between 1200 and 5000 revolutions per minute.

Besides the new engine which will be available on the BMW 135i coupe and convertible, the model will be offered with a DCT double-clutch transmission. The DCT transmission has seven gears and can be used both with the lever on the center console, as and paddles from the steering wheel. New paddles have a different mechanism of action, the left is used for one step lower, while the right wheel is used for the next step.
