We presented you in the previous article that the BMW ActiveE Electric concept will be introduced at Detroit Motor Show. BMW ActiveE Concept is the second complete electric vehicle from BMW Group, after MINI E, and is based on 1-Series. After the successful launch of the pilot program MINI E, BMW announced the start of tests for private use and some fleet users.
The new concept BMW ActiveE is driven by an electric motor, specially developed for this vehicle. Maximum power is 170 hp and torque of 250 Nm is delivered to the rear axle – a characteristic of BMW. For the first time, the electricity that propels the engine is stored in Li-ion batteries, developed by BMW in cooperation with partner SB LiMotive, especially for the concept.
Another feature of the propulsion technology used by BMW at the ActiveE concept is the low vehicle weight and improved arrangement of all components. The electric motor is fully integrated into the rear axle and other electronic components positioned above it. Remaining space is used to store energy. Weighing 1800 kg and with a low center of gravity, the vehicle meets all requirements to provide agile dynamic properties, typical to BMW 1-Series.
