BMW is preparing a new model M based on 1 Series
BMW is planning a new model M, which will be positioned under the M3, according to sources within the division of Bavarian manufacturer. Based on next generation BMW 1 Series, the new model is aimed to young customers, attracted by the M model.
Versions can compete with rivals such as next-generation Audi S3, with prices starting at 32,000 pounds. “We’re conscious that our existing customers are gravitating towards larger and more expensive models such as the X5/X6 M. We’re looking at ways to attract new customers to the brand, and an entry-level model is part of those plans.” said a source from M division.
The new M will be developed from the future 135i and could called the BMW M1, which means it will be powered by a turbocharged 3-liter gasoline, which will develop over 300 horsepower. “BMW needs to offer a new car for its enthusiasts, something that will replace the M1″ said an M division source.
