BMW signed a partnership with SGL Group
BMW has joined forces with carbon fiber specialists from SGL Group to produce lighter parts for new electric model, Megacity. Megacity will compete with Daimler’s Smart division with a range of urban at affordable prices, in the form of vehicles with two or four wheels.
Two plants will be built in North America and Germany to produce carbon fiber parts at large scale. “We will enter into a new dimension in terms of using carbon fiber materials, both in terms of volume on the car and in the number of vehicles produced.” said a spokesman for BMW.
BMW and SGL Group’s investment seems to be amounting to 230 million euros. “In the Megacity Vehicle, which will be launched under a BMW sub-brand in the first half of the next decade, the high-strength yet ultra-light material will make up a significant proportion of the materials used.” we find from oficial press release.
