A BMW X5 Hybrid was just spotted in… well, Michigan. Thanks to the bulge on the hood, we could tell immediately that it was the BMW X5 Hybrid.
Since the BMW test mules are usually seen around California state, with most of the BMW models being tested in the Mojave Desert, it came as a bit of a surprise. This may very well be the first test mule with an Illinois license plate.
Now a little bit of history: at the last Geneva Auto Show, the BMW X5 Twin-Turbo Diesel Hybrid was unveiled, as well as a Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept, powered by a twin-turbo 2.0 liter four-cylinder diesel that’s mated to a hybrid motor. The diesel engine is proud of its 204hp and 295lb-ft of torque. But that’s not all! The addition of a compact generator increases power by another 20hp and 154lb-ft of torque, with power being sent through an eight-speed gearbox developed.
