Autumn 2008 is the date from which the new iDrive generation will be available for 2009 BMW M3, M5 and M6. The system will have a new controller wheel surrounded by preference keys on the centre console surface. If you choose to go with the optional Professional navigation system, you will get an 8.8-inch control display with a screen resolution of 1280 x 480 pixel for displaying high resolution graphics and a new menu structure.
The hard drive has a capacity of 80GB and stores navigation data, as well as files ripped from a CD, an external MP3 player or a USB stick. By transferring the files to the hard disk, they will be permanently accessible.When it comes to accessories, the range will have an optional compatible USB board and snap-in adaptor for the full integration of the newest generation of smartphones, such as Apple iPhone.
Although it may be standard for BMW M5 and M6, iDrive control system will have an optional navigation system for BMW M3.
