The latest bullet-proof vehicle released is based on the new E70 BMW X5 and quite impressive, as it fulfills the safety requirements of ballistic level VR4, therefore it can withstand fire from weapons up to the 44 Magnum. The BMW E70 X5 ‘Security’ Edition can be procured through the carmaker’s dealerships and it is built completely at BMW.
What makes it so secure are the heavy-duty material, ballistics-resistant steel and 22mm-thick bullet-proof safety glass all around. The BMW E70 ‘Security’ Edition also includes features such as an intercom system and a camera monitoring set-up. The vehicle’s passengers are protected from violent crimes such as robbery, kidnapping or carjacking thanks to the design of the cell, which can even sustain a blast from a small explosive.
The power train and chassis are modified in line with the increased weight because of the reinforcements, but that doesn’t stop the BMW E70 X5 to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in only 7.5 seconds. The model reaches maximum speed at just 210km/h and its top payload is rated at 500kg (1,100lbs). There is a 4.8L V8 developing 355hp (261kW) and peak torque of 350lb-ft (475Nm) at just 3,400rpm under the hood.
